SPOTTED: CARD_LAB (One card to rule them all)

in #banking8 years ago (edited)

How many credit card are you carrying around? Wouldn't it be great if you could combine all your cards into one card?

Well this is possible since 2015 thanks to STRATOS (BANKCRUPT), Platc or Coin.

If you never heard of these companies, they let you store different cards (Amex, Visa or Master) into one programmable card.

While preparing for an interview, I had the chance to try out the card produced by Cardlab (the provider of the technology for STRATOS)

I studied Cardlabs Homepage and they are offering 4 incredible solutions.

1. The Snap Switch

Usually Card like Coin have a mechanical switch to turn the card on. The button will get worn quickly. So the great thing about the Snap Switch is, that it generates enough energy to switch on the card by just tapping the card (see video in this post)

2. The Biometric Reader

They can implement a Fingerprint-reader into a credit card, that's amazing!

3.) The RFID Jammer

Have you ever been scammed by a RFID thief? You could easily walk through a metro in Hongkong and steal  money form the Octopus RFID cards nearby.

4.) The dual magnet stripe

It's a re-writable magnet stripe, so it changes the information on your magnet strip, making it harder to skim your card. So in the future you are able to use onetime Creditcardnumbers and after that if someone skims your card the data they stole is useless. It allows more than one card to be stored on your card and you can change your card for various stores.

So here is a sample we used (already 3 card programmed into it, Master, Amex, Visa)

So this card uses two technologies The Snap Switch & The dual magnet stripe.

  • So first you have to snap the card on a table or with your finger, the self generating unit will generate enough power so the card is activated for use (its active for 20 seconds after a tap)
  • The card remembers your last choice, but after snapping you can click on the dots on the right side of the card and select Card 1,2 or 3 while the dots are blinking.

I think this is really amazing and in the next years we will see more amazing tech to disrupt the cardmarket. Normal creditcard are so boring ;)

Would you use this kind of card or are you using one? Please leave your comment !!!

@knozaki2015 I am trying to lose my credit cards, except for Discover Card. All the other ones were jerks to me when times were tough. So when I am finally rid of those leeches, I will then only keep discover and maybe another one for emergency in case Discover is not accepted.
full $teem Ahead!

ehm. discover card? where can you use that card?

lol that's why I said I would hang on to one of the other credit cards. I have had amex and a whole bunch of visas and mastercards but I have cut my debt and hopefully will continue to do more so until they are off my back.

have you ever heard about https://cardberry.com/?
This card is amazing too as it allows to store all of your discount and promotional cards on the board of one programmable card in order to not carry the whole bunch of them in your wallet. Check it out

yeah its the same concept. most card can carry any card (loyalty , credit, debit etc. ) as they have a dynamic magstripe

I guess cards that were programmed in a cardlab didn't contain a chip, right?

hi phenom,

Yes the EMV chip is lacking in this card. but the dual strip strip with onetime cardnumbers is much more secure than the EMV ;).

but there are cards with EMV out there!

Technologies are created to simplify our life, and it is already time to begin to do them it :)

yes. in the future mostly it will be paid by phone, but until then there is still a need for very smart credit cards

I just lost my credit card today , 3 of them lost .
I think time to change new one .
Thanks for the info .

;) yeah, losing card is a pain !

really pain ,i lost my identity card. i have to make police reports . :/

that is the worst part in losing a wallet!

I'm still wondering whether to go Android Pay or not seeing my friend use Apple Pay so much.

well I always try to use any nfc payment option I can use in any given country ;) it is so convenient!

Awesome card.
What do you think about other forms of dematerialized competition, like Apple pay for instance ?

I totally love and use all kinds of nfc payments. for me its the preferred way, but these under develop countries like the usa, or most of europe make it hard for nfc.

it seems the developing countries or newly developed are more leapfrogging in some ways.
I guess it make sense especially for developing countries to invest in newer infrastructure to support mobile comm than lay lines for the old ways.

I am carrying 3 different cards. It would be great to combined these into one card and the card is safer and more convenient to use as well. This is the perfect solution. This is one of the good side of technology

yep! thefuture will be even more secure. only hacking will be at the backends of service providers... not the hardware anymore

I use Apple Pay!
