Air-clinic writing contest #16; Stress, A quest to make ends meet
Ben was a young, vibrant gentleman who had dreams, goals and aspirations. He graduated with a decent degree from the University. Unlike a lot of his colleagues, he got a job immediately after graduation. Then, he was still a bachelor. His salary was just enough to pay his rent, provide basic feeding and deal with a few other necessaties, still leaving him with enough cash to flex around with.
He worked for 2 years and decided it was time to get married to the love of his life.
After a year of marriage, he realized that things were no longer the same. There was now a wife and kid to cater for. Before Ben could spell Jack Robinson, his wife put to bed again, giving him a pair of beautiful twins. That made it 3 children to take care of.
There were clothing to be bought, different types of baby food, postnatal care for his lovely wife and lots and lots more.
Within a couple of years, Ben realized that his salary wasn't just enough to take care of everything. The kids were now in school and tuition had to be taken care of too. He really needed to make ends meet, so he swung into action!
Now Ben works his day job from 9am to 4pm, then he plies the road with his vehicle as a taxi driver from 4pm to 10pm, sometimes eating only once a day. 24 hours doesn't seem to be enough for him any longer. He was definitely making ends meet, but his body was beginning to bear the brunt.
Recently, he was diagnosed of having diabetes which is as result of the high stress levels he's been passing through.
Ben wasn't one to be blinded by the pursuit for money. He heeded his doctor's advice and now he plies the road only thrice weekly. Nobody will take care of his family if he died, so his health comes first!
It's not easy, but they'll manage; afterall this is NAIJA and man must survive!
