the baltic sea anomaly
hello fellow steemians!
being an illustrator has been series of adventures for me -
but the biggest, most flabbergasting adventure im my life as an illustrator
was and still is the "baltic anomaly".
and the adventure is quite long and i could babble about this for hours ...
but i´ll try my best to deliver a very short version. (means more than 1 hour watching video etc.) :D
so back in 2010 a bunch of Swedish aquatic-treasure-hunters used their trusty side-scan-sonar equipment to scan the floor of the Baltic Sea for sunken ships and treasures.
suddenly this image popped up on their sonar screen :
i saw that story online and i felt inspired so i made this illustration :
i posted it on the Ocean x Facebook page and from there things got rolling.
The Ocean X team and their "baltic anomaly" was in international news and my painting quickly went viral.
it was exciting and i managed to get my brother on board to make some cgi magic and out of pure fascination and for fun - we made a short movie about the anomaly which i posted on youtube
after that a swedish tv company (Titan TV) contacted me and we ended up developing a full 3d animation for the TV documentary "mystery beneath"
(our animation starts at minute 54:00 - but what really still gets me weirded out is the scene at the very end 56:40 ... )
up until today i am flabbergasted about what Peter Lindberg and Dennis Asberg found.
and it was just the start of a journey down endless rabbit holes.
and thinking about it - it might have contributed to me seeking out communities like steemit. :)
process pick of the big illustration i did with the help of
Peter Lindberg,Dennis Asberg and Stefan Hogeborn (ocean x team) :
i made many more illustrations of the anomaly -
as a bonus here is one where i imagined how it would have looked if it really once was some kind of stonehenge.
while i obviously LOVE speculating about aliens and ancient civilisations
i say it might be a volcanic kinda thing - that is why there was never further investigation by authorities.
volcanic activity in the baltic is a big no-no for quite powerful companies etc.
but then ... who knows ? :)
cheers to all of you
hope you enjoyed!

This is awesome! I love mysteries like this, as smart as we it's really crazy to think about how much we still don't know.
hey thank you ! and yes there is so much mysterious stuff in the oceans!
Hauke ! This is amazing * ___ * What a mystery !!! So spooky and so interesting~ I love it <3 Gorgeous post, Hauke, and I love your drawing also. The green tinge is gorgeous and that second picture is super magical OMG

hey veryspider thank you so much ! i seem to have preference for green :D the baltic anomaly turned into a classic artistic obsession for me - i think it lasted almost 3 years and it is still a very weird subject for me. when i did the illustrations and the 3d with my bro i really hoped that the mystery would be solved in the end. i thought Peter and Dennis would dive don there and put an end to speculations. but that never happened- which leaves my artwork about the anomaly in a weird limbo. hard to put it in words really....
That is crazy! I had never seen anything about this before. What an incredible mystery. Your artwork really defines the sonar image. Congrats on all the attention your work received.
hello thank you very much and yes it is crazy indeed ! :D when i did the first drawing i had no idea of the adventure i was getting into.
