A day at the beach

in #adventure6 years ago

Although we have been in North Carolina for about a month now we still hadn't made it to the ocean yet. My fiance and I were trying to wait until after we got into our new home to go to the ocean but after all the bad news lately we needed a win in our lives so we decided to travel the short 30 miles to enjoy a few hours in the sun on the beach.

We didn't know exactly where were were going so we just drove down the outter banks until we stumbled upon a beach which happened to be Top Sail beach. Top Sail is a nice beach, not to busy but still had a good amount of people because it was a beautiful Saturday afternooon. The beach is lined with mostly vacation homes that ran up and down the coast. We didn't see a boardwalk or anything but we weren't looking for one. I think we passed the main turn to the beach so maybe the boardwalk was in a different area. It really didn't matter though, we just wanted to walk barefoot on the beach and get our feet wet.

I haven't been to the Atlantic Ocean for well over a decade so it was nice to see it again. The waves are much smaller than I remember, but that might just be because I was a kid last time I was on the East coast. The water was really warm but we didn't bring a towel or a change of clothes so we just walked along the beach for a few hours, picking up sea shells and enjoying the sound of the crashing waves.

There is something extremely calming about the Ocean and I really needed that in my life because of the hard time I've been having. We walked the beach for about 2 miles before we turned around and headed back, it didn't take long for me to forget about the bad week we have been having and actually enjoy the day for a change. The sun was out, blue sky's, it was about 90 degrees and there was a perfect ocean breeze to keep us from getting to warm on our walk. Visiting the ocean definitely did the trick, I feel a lot better.

We will be visiting more beaches very soon to see what there is to offer around this area. There are a lot of options within a hours drive of our new home, so we will be on the prowl for the perfect beach to enjoy this summer. If anyone knows a great beach in NC please leave it in a comment below. Always looking to meet up with some awesome steemians while at the beach.

Looks beautiful. I'm glad you had a good time. There is something very therapeutic about the sea and lapping waves.

Cheers, Gaz

So true! That sound of the crashing waves on the beach is incredibly soothing for the soul.. I wish I could go enjoy it everyday! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment.. take care.

You're welcome. You too.

Yes, water is so soothing, especially an ocean with gentle waves. I'm so glad you got out there and took a break for yourselves. Looks like a perfect day!

It was a definitely a nice change of pace and the perfect day for it.. Thanks for the comment :)

Glad you had a relaxing day @moderndayhippie. 90 degrees is way too hot for me though. Sea breeze or no sea breeze!

The sea is always so calming. That's why I would find it hard moving away from the coast now. I love being able to walk beside it whenever I want to. 😊

Good to hear that you and the lady were able to get out and relax for a change. I can't offer any advice for beaches over there but I am sure that you will get some suggestions by the time this post runs its course.

Thanks for the comment @sultnpapper, its always nice to hear from you. Surprisingly enough I haven't gotten any suggestions on beaches since I have posted this.. but I feel like there is still plenty of time..

You are more than welcome, I always enjoy reading what you have to say.

I can only and clearly imagine how beautiful and peaceful it was:)! Enjoy your trip:)

Looks like a beautiful day and a beautiful beach, with luck I will be heading to one of our local beaches in half an hour or so to catch the sunset ;)

Hopefully you caught it, I'll have to take a look at your page. I always enjoy your photos anyhow ;) I had to leave before the sun set but on the east coast I think that sun rises would be more epic than sunsets since that's when they would be over the water.. Thanks for the comment.. take care.

I Didn’t end up making it for sunset but did get a walk on the beach the next day

I am lucky where i lie I have beaches that have the sun over the water for sunrise, but also one thats good for sunset s:) 👍

Sounds like a great place to live! :)

@moderndayhippie IT truly is a nice change from the concrete Jungle of NYC where I work

Even on saturday the beach looks quite empty....love this kind of beaches with...cool sand beneath your foot, the swanky water splshewaves sound on your ear and the peace...everywhere.... @moderndayhippie......👍 like your accoynt name too👌

I actually just took a few pictures where there weren't a bunch of people, but it was still decently busy. Although it could of been way worse for sure..

Thanks for the compliment about the name, I honestly can't remember how I came up with this one but it is by far the best handle I have ever had.. I think it was mainly because I love smoking weed and I just want everyone to get along... lol..

I can imagine the sound and smell of the ocean would be a balm to your soul after that horrible experience!
Nothing as soothing as that, we're only 20 minutes drive from the beach, think that's a great idea; must have been balm for the soul :)

Absolutely! It was exactly what my soul needed.. Its crazy how nature can calm us down so easily if we just take the time to enjoy it.. I need to remember to enjoy nature more often when my life is out of whack..
20 mins from the beach? thats so perfect! We've already decided that our next home will only be 15-20 mins from the beach so we can walk it every morning, that would be a great way to start off every day :)

Definitely a great idea!
