Erase the Love

Greetings, readers. As I told you in the previous post, this week we will devote ourselves to reading and working with poems that speak exclusively of love, but from various perspectives. In the previous post I told you about the love we felt in our childhood, a love between crayons and watercolors, which we remember with joy. Today I want to talk to you about the lack of love, about that stage that we have lived at some time and that has made us cry seas of tears. But in this post we are not going to cry, since we will see the lack of love from the humor, from the belief that we can eliminate the other of our thoughts in an easy way, as easy as tearing the leaf from a tree.

Let's face it, life is not a movie and not every love or relationship has a happy ending. When love ends, what we must do is separate and put distance. The detail is when, despite the separation we still think of the other person. The desire to erase the other from our thoughts and our life can be attractive. So we look for a thousand ways to bury the memories and the ex. It is not unusual to see, after a breakup, people who begin to erase from Facebook, Instagram, all contacts, the person with whom recently had a relationship, it is as if with that gesture, could erase everything that has been lived and the person has never existed.

Let's start this tour with the poem entitled Punto final by Venezuelan writer Alberto Barrera Tyszka. Look at the creative way of telling the other that we have forgotten him:

Look at this point

.

Look at it dry simple solitary
Weak
Like a dead rabbit in the snow
Look at this point
.
See it now

So
Deletion
Like you

In this poem we can see how the lyrical voice uses a point, visible at the beginning and invisible at the end, to talk about the relationship. The dot is the protagonist of the poem, brilliant and genuine, protruding from the leaf; it is perceived as unique, round, just as love was at the beginning. But as the poem progresses, we see how the dot loses visibility, thickness, becomes miniscule until at the end disappears. This image serves the lyrical speaker to make it clear to the other person that he was something in his life, that he existed as the dot we just saw on the sheet, but that no longer exists, is erased.

Another poet who plays with the idea of erasing the person we once loved in a single movement is the Uruguayan Idea Vilariño, in her short poem Adiós:

Here
Far
I'll erase you.
You're erased

Every time I read this poem I can't help but remember a friend who, when she broke up with her boyfriend, asked all her friends not to talk about him again. This was the mechanism she used to erase him from her life. In this poem we can see what we said before and what is happening with many couples: we believe that erasing, eliminating the other person from our life, is to break photos, stop visiting friends in common, not go to the places we used to visit together, in short, we believe that erasing is easy. Although I have never seen anyone return to any bridge to remove the lock they put together while making a promise of love, nor have I heard of trees with erased hearts, I have read of many people trying to remove a tattoo that reminds them of their old love. Some things done in the name of love are indelible.

Regarding the idea of erasing, I bring up the Spanish poet Ángel Guache and his poem titled Mentirosa:

Your love was a lie,
your gesticulating and indecisive kisses
It was a farce.
the varnish glow of your gaze
The sky is no longer blue
I don't pursue your footsteps
I'll erase our history
with an eraser

In this poem, we observe that the lyrical speaker plays with the idea of fiction, of the unreal, of the false. The other person was so false that it could be erased like a story, any invented character. He talks about using a erasure to make everything that has been lived disappear. This expression, can be taken with irony, since it will never be possible to erase anything of that form, reason why the memory will always exist in us; or on the contrary, it is so easy to make disappear the feelings by that other person, that with a simple erase it can be eliminated of our life. Remember that everything passes, except what is important. What is important always remains in our thoughts and a little beyond.

When you end a love relationship, cry, shout, lock yourself in your room, don't eat, don't do many things for a while, if you want. You can delete your ex from your contact list, Facebook, break the cuddly toys you gave and burn the books and records they shared. Keep in mind that everything you do can exorcise each other's memories, but never erase them. After that, tell your friends not to let you dramatize anymore, not to let you talk about the same thing over and over again, because we can all swim in the well for a while, but if you lengthen the drama and stay anchored, you could end up drowning.

Love has those little drawbacks, drawbacks we've all been through at one time or another. Who hasn't had their heart broken? Who hasn't ever broken a heart? Anyway, don't try to erase from your head what's in your heart.

Impossible to erase a piece of your life, impossible to reverse the experience and start from scratch. It's all part of the process of life and the endings we must face. It is a death, a loss and as such we must learn to face. Pain cannot be erased so easily although for the world so you want to make see. I found your entry very interesting and appropriate for the week of love and friendship. When a friend leaves or we are disappointed the same thing happens. There remains grief and sorrow.

Thank you @nancybriti I always find interesting content on @adsactly

Very pertinent your comment, @evagavilan. Just as in love, so also in friendship. Just because we are no longer with a friend does not mean that we have to take him out of our lives or erase part of our memories. Thank you for your comment!

When we try to erase a person from our brain or from our Facebook account and also to delete his phone number it shows that we still love him, I think that after a separation we have to accept and consider it as an experience that passes like the passage of clouds in the sky, and prepare for a new experience that may be more beautiful than the previous one, and that's life :)

Right, @redouanemez. When we urgently and disproportionately try to erase the other person, we may still be in love with them. I believe that every wound has a time to heal and so is love: we cannot hasten healing. Thank you for your comment

Yes exactly @nancybriti, I totally agree with you, thank you too for your comment :)

Your second post in this series, @nancybriti, confronts us with one of the hardest common experiences. Just as true love relationships (not ephemeral ones) mark us forever, so too, consequently, the ruptures of them. Surely there will be no universal panacea to that. The most recommended is to live the mourning, just as one lives a loss for death. Poetry has expressed it throughout its long history, and there are excels examples. Perhaps humour is a resource. Alberto Barrera Tyzska's poem seems to me one of the that can best capture this ironic humour. Thank you for your pleasant post, very well illustrated. Greetings.

I also believe that the feeling of loss, of "Guayabo", as a Venezuelan would say, must be lived in order to be cured, to forget. I don't think that forgetting is achieved overnight, neither through throwing or breaking photos. Maybe humor is a way of carrying the lack of love! Thank you for always commenting, @josemalavem.

It will be possible to erase photos, block social networks, move away from shared friends, but erase the imprint of feeling and lived experience is more difficult. I believe that only time will turn off that love until it no longer means anything. And when a new one appears, one with new songs and joys, that one will be only the mark of a memory. The poems you have shared in this publication shows us that poetry can also write verses at the end of love. Thank you, @nancybriti. Thank you @adsactly.

If it was love, you can't forget! And we shouldn't forget it either. I believe in friendship after love, in thanking the good things that have been lived together. Thank you for your comments, dear @aurodivys.

@nancybriti, In my opinion, when human being offered with a wish by universe to ask what they want to express, in my opinion they replied with Poetic Words And Expression.

With so much depth poetry reflects life and it can touch the soul of any body for sure. Stay blessed.

Right, @chireerocks. Poetry is not only a vehicle that serves to transport feelings, it is also a house, the dwelling of the word that helps to live and not to die outdoors. Thank you for commenting

Welcome and true words. I can understand this because I've awakened through poetry and poetry became my expression and my feelings met with it's soul expression. Have a blessful time ahead.

you may block that person from contacting you, but hardly succeed erase memories.

we love @adsactly all day long

Even though our love can be expressed at any time, valentine is a good time for a romantic expression of literature. And you present it very well.
A good love story that falls in love with chanting or move on is certainly a beautiful work because it is wrapped in literary ways. Even if a story erases love for someone is revealed beautifully. The metaphor used and a very interesting parable with diction that makes array after array have a mean poem.
Even though we really can't get rid of everything that is embedded in the heart, there is always a desire not to drag on sadness so that the writers express their desire to make memories, and the shadow of being hurt or wanting to move to another heart.
