My Actifit Report Card: May 21 2019
며칠 전 뉴스에서 한 억만 장자가 아틀란타에 있는 한 대학 졸업식에서 졸업생 수백명의 학자금 대출을 모두 갚아 주겠다고 선언한 기사가 있었습니다.
기사 내용을 보면, 학자금 대출이 있는 졸업생이 400명 정도이고, 그 총 금액이 477억원이나 되며, 더구나 그 억만장자는 그 대학 출신도 아니라고합니다. 기사를 먼저 본 한국기사에서는 '흑인 대학에'이라고 지칭하였는데, 흑인대학?이라고 별도로 구분하는지 궁금하여 찾아보니...
Morehouse College is a private, all-male, historically black college in Atlanta, Georgia, HBCU( Historically Black Colleges and Universities) 라고 이야기되며 , 그 중에 top 1 이며, 마틴 루터 킹 Jr. 목사를 배출한 학교라고 합니다.
아무튼, 이 Robert F. Smith라는 이 멋진 분은 연초에도 이미 이 학교에 150만불을 기부하였고, 지난 2017년 자신의 5조가 넘는 재산의 대부분을 기부하는 "기부서약"에 서명까지하였다고 합니다.
정말 대단하신 분인 것 같습니다.

학교 위치를 보니 아틀란타 공항에서 17분 거리로 나오던데, 금요일 업무 정리가 일찍 끝날 수 있다면, 가는 길에 한번 들러 볼까 생각 중입니다.
