My Actifit Report Card: March 14 2019

Hey Actifitters and Steemians,

I went for an early morning fast walk/jogging because I gave a friend of mine that takes me to Alaba International Market where we were going to buy some grains and process them at the local millers to produce flour which we use in making swallow that we use in eating the different soups we cook. I have written about this so many times, you see, a lot of the packaged flour we use for swallow are packed with so much chemicals you wonder why people are not falling sick every time. Couple with that, they are so expensive. The thing that is keeping them going is the big brand names they carry and our laziness to go back to the root i.e. how we used to do it before packaged food became the order of the day.

We drove to the market area around 10am but parked very far away so that we can easily drive out when we are done. The roads inside the market are very bad and there are just too many people on the road. I’ll take you through a step by step process how we were walking from one area of the market to another area.

First the bags of different grains are brought to the market from mostly the Northern part of where they are been harvested and sold in bags to buyers in Lagos and other states and even to bordering countries. Next some of the buyers resell in bags to their big time customers, we locate these sellers and buy from them instead to going to other markets where the come to buy from them too, so we get it at relatively cheaper prices.

Next, we pay a carrier (young men that carry whatever you buy to wherever you want to take it to in the market or car parks) carries all the grains we bought to the millers shop. The miller then mixes all the grain before grinding them. This time I bought 5 container of maize (corn), 2 container of wheat and 1 container of cassava.

They grind it several times 4 to 5 times, I usually walk away from that area as the engine starts because it is so noisy and you feel the ground vibrating as they are grinding it. Imagine the noise a man drilling a concrete road makes, that is the kind of noise it makes, it hits the brain man. Lol. Also, you have to wait your turn, some people are grinding up to 10 bags of cause, those people are resellers, in the meantime while waiting we went to the suya spot (barbeque beer) to eat some of them tasty meat with some soft drinks to cool off.

Once they are done, they fill it into a sack bag and notify the owner you pay for the grinding of your grains and also pay a carrier who takes it to where you packed your car. We got home early in the evening to get some really delicious yam pepper soup my wife had prepared for us. Sorry guys, I was so hungry and almost fainting that I only remembered I didn’t take a picture when I had already finished eating. Lol. Better luck next time.
