Another example of Steemit Abuse - But is the SYSTEM really working?

in #abuse6 years ago

So it's another day and another impostor has been uncovered but this one's a little strange because he's already been flagged as an impostor but yet continues to operate beyond the rules of the platform.

Is the system breaking down?

OK, so the account in question is @djkhaled which if you're any sort of music fan would know he's a famous music producer/dj.

So my first instincts were to welcome him to the Steemit Platform, but after reading his 'IntroduceYourself' post things smelt a little fishy.

The title seemed legit, the copy read OK and there were pictures, albeit copies from the Internet, but there was no confirmation of identity so someone obviously reported him.

Great job! @steemcleaners, but why does this account continue to operate 11 days later?

In fact, the Steemcleaner Scope for Abuse states:

If not to deceive then what is the purpose of this introductory @djkhaled post?

Even I am puzzled?

Perhaps they get away with it, by calling the account a Fan/Parody Account.

That's total BS, IMHO.

But wait it gets better.

The account then switched it up with a thought of the day, then an attempt at a MEME Competition, each time upvoting to the tune of $100. WTF!

Then just yesterday, he writes another $100 post which was a direct cut and paste from the Internet and then has the cheek to include the source of the actual article he ripped word for word.

But hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen, it's about to get a little breezy in here.

You see, the same bot (@ cheetah) that is supposed to protect the system from plagiarism actually gave this post an upvote.

My brain now hurts more than ever.

Now I expect the abuse of the system with this account will continue as the hefty rewards start rolling in and the poor quality posts can be rinsed and repeated.

But I guess only time will tell.

And given both @ steemcleaners and @ cheetah has given this account a visit with no obvious action the only hope we have is @grumpycat or @berniesanders pops on by to shut the @djkhaled account down.

But why is it their job to do so?

I'm beginning to see why some whale accounts have started to take these injustices into their own hands, because the Steemcleaners and Cheetah clearly have a different interpretation of abuse, than us common folk, living at the bottom of the food chain.

And the more time I spend on the platform, the more abuse I find.

So wait and see what I have for you tomorrow.

How was an account that obviously purports to be DJ Khaled by its very name choice even allowed to be created - I thought every account registration has to be cleared by Steemit Inc?

Per the Steemit FAQ: "You will be asked to verify your email address and phone number. After your email address and phone number have been verified, you will be added to the waiting list. You will be notified via email once your account is approved."

What a joke. My consternation about the evidently lackadaisical oversight of this platform continues to grow by the day. It clearly is not the premiere example of what the Steem Blockchain is capable of. The fact that Steemit Inc is asleep at the wheel regarding this sort of nonsense is disconcerting, to put it lightly.

And the worse thing is @DJKhaled will be pissed when he realizes he can't ever get that account back. He's a real hustler and would have considered Steemit as another opportunity to build his brand. Not anymore :-(

I think Steemit INC is failing the STEEM blockchain. Maybe we need a new path to the blockchain.

New paths are being attempted, such as Utopian, Dtube, etc. I'm just not sure to what degree they'll succeed at superseding the deficiencies of Steemit though. After all, Steemit is the original proof of concept of the Steem blockchain. So long as Steemit's development lags and improvements fail to materialize, then the market's valuation of the underlying blockchain itself will remain less than its potential.

This is great work! I think I am going to add a section to my daily video of the abuses you find. Between you and @pawsdog there are certainly enough for a daily update. I mentioned your blog about Jerry Banfield and there was a lot of buzz about it. This might help boost your visibility too! This is awesome, thanks so much for all the time you put into investigating abuse.

Thanks, but just be sure to triple check my work. Just to be sure I'm still on track.

It's great! You are just presenting information you find, not necessarily making a case for it. That's exactly what we are all trying to do. I guess nothing is absolutely definitive. I linked your article in my latest video though. It's so crazy! (not your article, just the content of it.) I now want to see what Cheetah has been upvoting!
