Cabbage Garden, Week #4!!

in #gardening7 years ago (edited)

Back again with this week's update of the cabbage garden project. It's been a good week so far and they seem to be doing just fine after being waterlogged for more than 24 hours. There was some loss, however, but it's manageable. Aside from that, not much has changed.

An interesting thing I’ve noticed about cabbages is that for the first few weeks, they seem to be growing quite slowly, then boom. By the 6th week they’ve grown so much, you forget how small they were just a week ago. Hopefully, that behavior doesn’t change ;)

As they are now, I shall begin giving them a mold, some urea and adding more manure, I will also be removing as many of the weeds from around them as I can. This requires some patience but I tend to do it gradually, that way I don't feel the bulk of the task all at once. It's a little difficult getting the manure in at the moment, I shall be doing that tomorrow provided the sun keeps shining as it is now.

I've Already started molding these and getting rid of the weeds. Not looking bad.

Over here, I'm preparing another plot to grow some lettuce on. These are reasonably easy to grow, very little problems and chemical requirements, despite its often high market value. Over the next two weeks, I will be making beds for the plants, and putting in drainage as needed.

I have already begun the lettuce nursery, as you can see, they have started sprouting already. In about 21 days or so, they will be ready for transplanting. Not my favorite task but the patience often pays out in the end. I have found that when I purchase seedlings from suppliers, I'm often disappointed with quality, age, and type of plant that I get. Growing my own seedlings may be time-consuming, but I can be 100% certain of the end result.

I had planned on documenting just the cabbages since I love watching them grow, They look like big green flowers! I decided to document everything I do in the garden too, because why not :D If one person appreciates this, I did good :)

These are some Pak Choy that I planted, along with the cabbages. They were mostly under water too but since the water receded, they have really sprung up to reach the sunlight! Check em out!

They were planted on the lower end of the field, I felt like a little diversification couldn't hurt.
