Wintertime ... I'm loving it

This week, winter has really kicked in over here and I must say, I don't know what it is, but this winter is more special than others previously. I can't explain what it is, but there's something special about this winter.

Instead of me doing one of my regular posts about parenting, running, places I've been/to visit or events that I've attended. I felt like reminiscing about why I enjoy this winter particularly very much.

So I made a fire in the fireplace, made myself a cup of hot chocolate, grabbed my laptop and take the time to reminisce ... before I googled winter meme's and thought that would be a more entertaining post!

I think, one of the factors that definitely has an impact is the fact that we had a fantastic summer. It was hot and long, fun with plenty of stuff to do with the kids and combined with some great runs and nice periods off that I spent with my family. The nice, long and qualitatively good summer almost went straight into winter. It started cooling down slowly, but the weather remained nice until in the beginning of November and then it suddenly turned.

As the days grew shorter, more wet and colder the winter came rapidly in the lower mountain regions and last week it hit our altitude. Why I love the winter:

• I love the look of snow, it's clean, peaceful, quiet, dampens noise and hides all the dirt
• If you do end up going outside or doing something, you feel so fullfilled at the end of it ... and you can gloat to those who stayed inside
• After you go outside you have an excuse to grab a nice warm beverage, turn on the fireplace and cuddle up
• The days are shorter and you have more events with friends/family at the dinner table, over here that also involves fondue or raclette (both of which I love)
• Winter events are cool and more challenging, so more fun when you actually do them
