Tech, AR and Tomorrow's World [Part II]

This is the second Part of my thoughts on Tech, AR and Tomorrow's World

Have you ever heard of Augmented Reality? AR perhaps?

** If there was one critical technology to understand, AR is it.**

AR technologies promise to transform how we learn, make decisions, and interact with the physical world. It overlays images and data on the user’s view of the real world.

Tim Cook of Apple is perhaps the most outspoken: “AR could be a big idea like the smartphone”.

They know how the smartphone kickstarted the app store eco system, it is going to do the same with AR. Microsoft’s Hololens and Google’s ARcore are hot on their heels. Snapchat is also betting on the technology through its acquisition of Cimagine.

This is all you need to know about AR.

Manager Guide to AR

Cloud (at the edge) is an important facilitator of the IOT revolution although it may ultimately be one of the areas where early advantages are competed away.

Today, all roads still lead to Rome or “FAN(Nvidia)G”

Amazon seems to be ahead of everyone in its ability to use data and Alexa, which is clearly their unofficial 4th Pillar, is the future.

How will that disrupt the big two advertisers FB and Google is another big Question?

Amazon will have a microphone in every house listening – and listening is learning. We will pay for its R&D. Alexa will eventually become a pair of glasses, but AI has to go slow enough to make sure the “creep “ is always offset by the enhanced experience.

AI in music is the killer app.

What is obvious from talking to Nvidia and friends is that Autonomous is much nearer to reality than many realise.

It is not decades away.

This was a different message from what we heard in 2016.

The speed for adoption was driven by the carriers forcing the handset manufactures to take on the phones. If Autonomous is to succeed it will probably be the fleet operators who will force the OEMS; this is what we have seen them do in the truck world.

Renovo, who we know well, are at the forefront of creating an open OS, not just for the autonomous world but for the wider eco system that will drive housing, healthcare, education, media, telecoms, consumption, mobility, utilities, pollution – pretty much everything a modern city requires.

Nvidia’s answer is they now have 670/- developers on Cuda. Cuda-Zone
This is like the App phenomenon in mobile. More importantly, they are now saying that AI in GPU can code far more quickly than a human.

The IOT is a muddled world at present, but as applications move from business to consumer and from GPU to CPU the application possibilities become endless. Nvida is forecasting more than 1bn cameras by 2025.

They believe AI will make 50/- radiologists in the US redundant in the next few years.

Data is something that has been impossible to forecast. AWS, Google and Microsoft have made hay from the infinite amounts of data being stored in the cloud.

The new world according to Nvidia, Intel and friends is processing on the edge. I’m not suggesting we are near peak storage and forecasts by the titans have been woefully low over the last few years, but the concern is that most of the stored data has no use. So, as memory capabilities explode, the processing on the edge will become ever more important. The chip cycle has been strong but still feels as if it is in the foothills.

Thanks for keeping us informed on technology!

Augmented reality is something that I have barely heard about before now but I think it’s pretty cool. I wouldn’t mind playing some games on it! I assume that they’re going to make some sort of glasses instead of looking through your phone. is kind of hard to forecast what the future of technology will be like when it’s moving so fast nowadays. If you would’ve told me 10 years ago that I would be running my online business from my phone I’m not sure I would’ve believed you. Who knows what the world will looks like in regards to tech in 10 years!

Indeed, I just bought the VR helmet for PS4 at Christmas and I expected to have something "not really working" but instead I was amazed. When I think this is the 1st version, I am scared to not be able to differentiate VR and Real World in a few years...
Crazy!
Thank you for the comment.

I hope the world doesn’t turn into that movie with Bruce Willis (I think it’s called surrogates) but I have a feeling that’s exactly what’s going to happen 😂
