Earth is our nurse

I have long been interested in the question of why this is so long growing. For example, why, the apple needs time to ripen, according to earthly standards for several months, from the time of the appearance of the flower to the time when the fruit has matured. And there are varieties that are very late ripening and they need time almost twice as much.
The meaning of maturation and growth of the fetus is that to build complex molecules, sugars or vitamins, all that are part of the fetus, you need the material that delivers the tree. So I think that the tree has its own limited possibilities. It is not able to skip large quantities of matter per unit of time or per day, under all idyllic conditions. In other words, it will not be faster. Slowly, all laid down in the growth program, each molecule performs its work.
Therefore, I have many questions about how to form modern gene engineering, which modifies plants and makes them produce more fruits and faster, under the same initial conditions. Most likely the plants are working on wear or the amount of nutrients decreases, but the water content increases.
