Achievement Task 3: Content Etiquette by @uby4real
Making Plagiarism Free Posts
We surly can't make Plagiarism Free Posts on steemit if we have no idea what Plagiarism is about, then we can aim at avoiding it.
I love the English language because it has a name for almost everything. And I am about to give you a typical example. If a person takes what is not his, and dose that in the absence of the owner, that person will be called a thief.
If the circumstances should change and he takes what is not his in the presence of the owner using force, then he will be called a robber.
If the circumstances surrounding the rubber was facilitated by a gun or a knife or any weapon then the person will be called an armed robber
Robbery in the sea where ships or boats are involved is called piracy.
But if the thief is taking something that is not tangible, an ideas, a song, a meaningful speech, anything that is the result of intelligent thinking, such a thief is called a Plagiarist.
What is Plagiarism ?
Plagiarism is the act of stealing another person's intellectual work, presenting and receiving credit for the work without admitting that the idea was not theirs.
According to bing.com, Plagiarism is "the practice of taking someone else's work or ideas and passing them off as one's own" bing
Plagiarism is the practice of taking credit for someone else's words or ideas. It's an act of intellectual dishonesty. In colleges and universities, it violates honor codes and can cause irreparable damage to a person's reputation. It also comes with serious consequences; a plagiarized assignment may lead to a failing grade, a suspension, or an expulsion.
Plagiarism and Reviews
When writing a review, it is impossible to avoid other people's ideas or thought in your material, and that is what quotation marks were meant for. Correctly using quotation marks and citations is the best way you can have other people's brilliant ideas adding value to your work without being a Plagiarist.
If you are summarizing another person's work in your write-up, you will have to put such a summary in quotations and cite the source. Failure to do so makes you guilty of a type of Plagiarism known as paraphrased Plagiarism.
Having mentioned that, let's look at some types of Plagiarism.
Types of Plagiarism
Accidental plagiarism: The writer will be guilty of accidental Plagiarism if he forgot to put a citation but had indicated the text with quotation marks. It may also occur if the reference provided is not correct.
Inaccurate Authorship A writer will be guilty of this form of Plagiarism if he failed to recognize the contribution of one or more contributors who worked on the same project.
Mosaic Plagiarism: when the work is entirely made up of materials collected from other people's work. Some amount of research was conducted and various parts of other people's work was used to create this work.
Global Plagiarism: The offender in this case steals another person's project and presents it as if it was theirs without making much changes.
Auto Plagiarism: This is when a Plagiarist Plagiarize his own work.
