Lobster with Pepsi Tattoo Fished In Canada !

in #science7 years ago

Here's an unusual story I just came across while browsing the news. About a month ago, a lobster with a pepsi "tattoo" on its claw was fished off the coast of New Brunswick, Canada. Don't believe me? Here's a photo:

Credit: Karissa Lindstrand

As you can see, the photo of the claw shows half of the pepsi logo and even the upper lid of a can! Whether this imprint came from an actual Pepsi can or a photo (e.g. from a box) or whatever still remains unclear, although I will make sure to update you if anything new comes up.

The story first came out on CBC, which reported that the photo was taken by Karissa Lindstrand who "had already spent five hours banding lobster claws on a boat called Honour Bound, off Grand Manan, when a blue and red logo she knew well caught her eye."

"I can't say how he got it on. It seemed more like a tattoo or a drawing on the lobster rather than something growing into it." Lindstrand said.

So, how could this thing have happened? Well, there are a few theories. One says that the claw might had grown around a pepsi can while another says that a Pepsi box could have gotten stuck on the animal. However, Lindstrand disagrees with both of them. According to her, the "tattoo" was pixelated, so it couldn't have been a can. And it can't be from a pepsi box, cause those images are too large for the claw.

Chances are it didn't came from something made of paper,  cause paper deteriorates too fast in the water so overall, there appears to be no good theories at the moment, to which Lindstrand agrees:

"I’m still trying to wrap my brain around what exactly it was." she said.

What do you think? Can you come up with a good explanation?

As for the fate of the lobster, according to TheGuardian it was placed in a crate along with other lobsters and probably ended up in a restaurant or something.

Regardless of how the tattoo came to be, the incident serves as a reminder of the mess we have made of our planet and in this case all the rubbish, chemicals and other shit we have filled our oceans with. To give you just an idea of the damage,  about 100,000 turtles and marine mammals, such as dolphins, whales and seals, are killed by plastic litter ALONE each and every year. The wider picture of course is even worse,  for example one million seabirds die each year thanks to plastic litter!

Ok, enough with the depressing stuff. Let me close today's post with a video uploaded by MBARI two days ago, showing some really cool sponges and corals. The footage was taken at the Sur Ridge, 35 kilometers off the Big Sur coast and 800 meters below the sea surface. Enjoy:

I think it's a friggin miracle!

If the Virgin's face can show up on a tortilla in Mexico, why can't the Pepsi logo show up on a lobster's claw in Canada?

lol, just checked the story. Can't believe what people "see" when they want to see!

I guess the old aphorism is true: "You'll see it when you believe it" (and not before!)

Holly molly , it is the Pepsi logo !! Waw

I know, amazing XD

hahaha the weird shit u find at sea !

seems staged.

also,

``Ms. Lindstrand said she now wishes she had kept the lobster because of all the interest it has generated.
Instead, she just put the lobster in a crate for transport to a buyer, and it may have gone to the United States.
But she said she's glad it was a Pepsi logo and not another brand of cola.

"I'm a Pepsi fan 100 per cent. I drink one cup of coffee in the morning and then Pepsi all day. On average it would be about 12 cans."

commercial for pepsi?
also how nice that poor viral lobster ended in a crate and got sold to restaurants...

Perhaps you are right but I think the "But she said she's glad it was a Pepsi logo and not another brand of cola." is fake news, I don't remember reading it anywhere else.

Although yeah the part where the lobster ended up in a crate is definitely convenient!

it looks like nail art ^

i believe its staged, because im desperately trying to convince my cat to become viral with fake rescues.. like i would rescue her every day from burning car, from open water, seconds before explosion of trash container.. we could get viral, and she would get a lot of whiskas. but she lacks ambition^

ahahahhahahahahahaha

i bet she didnt had troubles with lobster ^ she lied about him ending in restaurant crate. they are drinking cocktails on some yacht.. and laughing at us..

It may have been one of those wax paper tattoo things. I mean I don't even know if pepsi makes those but if they do and one got stuck on the lobster claw then it would be a pretty decent temporary taboo. I mean it even looks like the picture pealed away just like temporary tattoos peal away (and trust me, they will stick to pretty much anything once wet)

Only problem is that it does not appear that pepsi makes temporary tattoos that look like that.

Ha, that's a good theory :D

Pepsiholic lobster ! As for the planet mess...no comments. Resteemed..Tip!

Very tasty to cook, deliciousssss hehe :)
