Monochrome Monday an old lamp and bending the rules

Monochrome Monday an old lamp and bending the rules

This is a post for Monochrome Monday hosted by @old-guy-photos A challenge I try to join as often as I can, the other challenges he hosts are Sepia Saturday and Tree Tuesday, all fun challenges and worth checking out.

For this weeks post, me being the rule breaker I am I am actually going to start with a color shot and then move to Monochrome, why may you ask, well I like the color shot and many just see the first shot and do not scroll down to see the other photos, so if your here to see mono do scroll down,
On a visit to Central Park recently I came across this cool Lampost that I thought would look good in Mono, but as I said when I edited the shots this first one just looked better in Mono

I think with all the colors around this lamppost it just looked so much better in color, but now lets see some of it in Mono

Starting with the base and the cool Cherubs and ornate detail

And now look up the lampost at the lights themselves, I went a bit artsy with this edit

And finishing off with another of the lamps in Central Park

I think the blue tone was the show-stopped. But yeah I know what you mean. A color shot is more attention-grabbing than black and white. I was a rule breaker this week too. I think Paul ... @old-guy-photos ... are your ears ringing ... is used to our rebel ways by now.

LOL I am always breaking the rules for @dswigle,s Market Friday but i think this is the first time i have for MonochromeMonday, now I must go check your posts and see who was the worst rule breaker lOL

To tell you the truth I Break The Rules of my own challenge, so I don't expect anybody else to follow them. LOL

Me to, I always kind of interpret rules to be guidelines and it’s not so much that I break them I merely dance all around them 😎

That is actually a more PC way of putting it... Yes. I break dance. :)

I think your more classy than that I think you Waltz around them 😎

These photos are beautiful and I must also say I love the sephia shots (and the b&w of that fountain!)

Patina of the statue along with the reflection in the puddle and the rain water pooling on the plastic cover of the bicycles all add such special touches to the first shot. I love the brand new green has popped out, both on the trees and on the wall. Lol

It is attention to these tiny little details that just make sure photography superb.

As for me, I really think that the black and white intentionally focuses on those tiny little details of the cherubs, and even the leaves in the trees. It has more concentrated effect for my eyes. Now in singing this, I am much more partial to the first picture, but I have true appreciation for the black and white because of the Exquisite details that it exudes. As far as that Lamppost goes, the edit that you did for the first one is surreal looking with the blue tone. I had to really look at it carefully to see how it was so surreal looking and it's the blue that does it.

So many lamp posts tell me but none can compare to the beauty of the cherubs. Thank you so much for taking us through the park again. It's always a wonderful time that you show us!

And such a sweet comment is !tip worthy I must say
Maybe some if what you notice and said goes through my mind subconsciously when I edit photos I honestly don’t know I just go on my gut feeling what style if edit to with a photo and makes a pleasing result to me
But to hear you explain it like that when you look at the photos gives me such a real good feeling supersonic thank you so much

Gorgeous photos & nice writing!

Thanks so much appreciated

I think the cool blue of the post is the eye catcher.

The lamp post and plinth can easily get lost in the foliage in b&w/sepia/monochrome.

Perhaps a ground level shot with the lamp highlighted against the sky and a break in the trees would bring the non colour shots to life (for me at least).

But hey I am perhaps bending what might be provided by the limitations of the scene to create an imaginary shot for me that was done by someone else. The height of arrogance !
