Gapstow Bridge - Central Park
Gapstow Bridge

Gapstow Bridge is the bridge i have taken more photos of in Central Park than any other, Partially because of its location right on the corner of the park at 59th Street, but more so just because i find it such a charming and beautiful bridge.

The Stone bridge as we see now its the second bridge in this location it replaced the original bridge which was a more elaborate Iron and wood bridge which was worse for wear and replaced in 1896

The Gapstow Bridge is a stone bridge that spans 44 feet of water at its base and has a 12 Foot High Arch, the sidewalls of the bridge are 76 Feet Long.
To one side is the pond, a beautiful little water feature often with ponds and ducks, and ot the other is the Woolman rink which is a Ice Skatign rink in the winter months
I find it beautiful any time of year never when the temperature drops and the trees are bare.
And this end smy little tour of this beautiful bridge in the park.

Being a Country boy at Heart Central Park is my favorite part of the city
Wow, that's beautiful! I like how the bridge reflects in the water. @ironshield
I love the reflections as well I am always looking for good reflections in the city

Such magnificent captures...truly loved all of them!
Tks2
It is very much like the bridge at the bass pond at the Biltmore in North Carolina. Olmsted was the landscape architect for both places. Beautiful photos!
THanks and so interesting to learn there is a sister bridge :)
This one carries car traffic. Not exact, but similar!
Ohh yes it look very similar indeed
Wow. They are really similar.
