Hey Steemit!

If you're unfamiliar with this series, basically I share a soundtrack and my thoughts about it, and I highly recommend listening to the song while reading! 😊

So E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) just ended last Friday and man, it was freaking amazing! What a week for gamers! Unfortunately, I could only catch Nintendo's conference live, and I'm so glad I did because it was absolutely mindblowing! I did read about the highlights from the other studios, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo 'won' this year's E3 for sure. 😄

If you weren't aware, this year's E3 saw conferences from EA, Bethesda, Microsoft, Square Enix, Ubisoft, and Nintendo. Sony opted out of the live conference, but I'm not sure why though. Each company showed off whatever they were working on and teased some new games as well. If you wanna catch up and read about the highlights instead of watching the conferences (each one is about an hour long or smt), I recommend reading articles like this one from techradar which summarises what was shown over the 3 day expo.

Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Nintendo's conference if you haven't seen it yet!

As a longtime Nintendo fan I was most excited for their conference, mainly for the announcements of the new Smash Ultimate DLC fighters, but they surprised me with their new games as well! The biggest surprise was definitely the sequel for Breath of the Wild being developed and the teaser trailer was spooky as hecc!

So in honour of the first Zelda game I've officially played (and the first Switch game I got hooked on), I decided to do another song from this fantastic game! Here it is:

To recap (because I actually wrote about a song from BotW in a previous post), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo. An entry in the long-running The Legend of Zelda series, it was released for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U consoles on March 3, 2017. Breath of the Wild is set at the end of the series' timeline; the player controls Link, who awakens from a hundred-year slumber to defeat Calamity Ganon before it can destroy the kingdom of Hyrule.

This song is called Hyrule Castle, and the name pretty much suggests where you can find it in-game. Since the castle is the area with the final boss, it's definitely deserving of an epic theme like this one.

The song starts off with an organ quietly playing in the background, with the sound of soldiers marching, and builds up with the help of the snare drum. The cellos come in soon after with the melody, giving off that serious melancholy tone together with the bell tolling in the background. You can just picture the knights of Hyrule marching into battle 100 years ago.
I like the piano coming in with the supporting harmony, and the brass taking over the melody after that as well. The piano is actually reminiscent of the song you hear in-game when the Guardians are about to attack you with the laser (which gives you a heads-up that they're straight up about to shoot you).
The strings and brass blend together really well in this piece, sharing the spotlight for the melody and lifting each other up. You can just feel all the feels in that climax. I'm not ashamed to say I legit teared up when I first heard this song on its own, but I was freaking out in-game because I thought I was gonna get ambushed.

When I heard this song it instantly became one of my favourites in the game, and it definitely shows the epicness of an orchestral soundtrack. The constant sound of marching really hits it home with this piece as you seek to avenge all those who sacrificed their lives in the Calamity 100 years ago.

The soundtrack is actually not that prominent in this game, because the sound designers wanted to retain the feeling of being in an open-world with mostly atmospheric sounds. So when you're exploring the mountains and fields of Hyrule in BotW there's no music constantly blaring at you the whole time. Instead, it's mostly wind and nature sounds, so it feels just like you're in the world itself, and that is definitely one of my favourite parts of the game.

But I must say, when there is music, it's really good! The composers Manaka Kataoka, Yasuaki Iwata and Hajime Wakai did an absolutely fantastic job! Truly living up to that Nintendo quality name.

I found a series of Behind the Scenes videos on how BotW was developed and it's actually really interesting! If you're into game design as well, definitely check it out!
