in #bitshares8 years ago (edited)

Welcome to the 29th Bitshares State of the Network (BSotN) report. I will be releasing this report weekly to look at the changes in the ecosystem and track longer term changes in a effort to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares platform.

Bitshares - State of the Network - 4th April 2017

The Bitshares State of the Network Reports seeks to combine raw data from a wide range of metrics and combine them into meaningful information to identify emerging trends and changes in the Bitshares network.

Observation from this week

This section will highlight any observations made while analysing the data.

  • Alfredo Garcia (Bitshares Core Dev) has been working on some features enhancements as well as resolving a number of ticketed issues; besides this he is also assisting with the stealth team and looking into the Bitshares stresstest in an effort to push TPS even further that the 3300 TPS achieved last month. check out his progress HERE

  • @xeroc has released a paper detailing the methodology and results of the recent Bitshares distributed testnet stress test. Results in the 4 hour test windows showed a top of 3,300 TPS and 20,000+ Operations per second with a sustained average of 1,000 transactions per block and 8,000 operations per block. These are huge results in the current crypto currency space! but we are looking to push this even further. I always knew our chain was fast but the HUGE take away for me was the ease at which blockchain parameters can be voted on and changed with the stress test demonstrating this ability by using 7 discrete phase's with changes being made to Max TX Size, Max Block Size and Block Interval; changes were made on the fly and witnesses fully supported updated parameters and the whole process was seamless. I recommend reading the following short paper and sharing amongst your circles VIEW STRESS-TEST PAPER HERE

  • This week has seen a huge increase in market operation on the DEX, given the recent price price the re-balancing of portfolios and asset valuation has brought on a flurry of activity which has added to the compounding growth of the network Be sure to check out the chart i have included at the bottom of this section showing market operations (create, cancelled and filled) over time; the trend is clear

  • @officialfuzzy has shared an update relating to the Sharebits and the Whaleshares project, things are progressing very well and in the coming weeks we will see these projects becoming more public with the Sharebits first integration with the PHPBB forum systems with future integrations to twitter and all the major social networking platforms. For the official updates be sure to check out the latest Beyond Bitcoin recordings HERE

  • This week @xanoxt has spoken at the blockchain meetup in Moscow presenting rudex.org a Russian Bitcoin onramp utilizing the Bitshares network. See his original post HERE

  • Peerplays Jonathan Baha'i has announced the winner of last weeks Peerplay's Contest (congratulations to @rolandp for his video 'Peerplays crowdfund explained by pears' which can be found HERE). Jonathan has also increased the stakes and relaunched a new contest with $1000 worth of BTC as the prize!. you can see the full details HERE. You can also listen to Jonathan's official update on the latest Beyond Bitcoin Hangout which you can find HERE

  • Christoph Hering (@chris4210) Co-Founder & CEO of Bitshares Munich along with @bloggersclub (Ronny Boesing CEO of Openledger), @charlieshrem and steemits own @ned (Co-founder and CEO at Steemit) will be attending the Blockshow Europe in Munich this week; Ronny and @jonnybitcoin will also be going to Coinfest the following day. If your in the area it is great chance to get down to the events and say hello.

  • @kencode has released his weekly update filled with news from a number of projects that Bitshares-Munich are working on (BlockPay, C-IPFS, Bitshares Stealth, Smartcoins Wallet). This week there are mentioned of Bitshares-Munich's intentions to carry on with Xeroc previous work on Trezor integration, heaps of exciting details about Carbon (Smartcoins Wallet 2.0) including support for 6 chains, HD contacts, NFC support and much more find all the latest updates HERE

  • @full-steem-ahead (Bitshares witness Verbaltech2) has continued leading the way with another monthly witness update; amongst some other updated, he has detailed his node upgrades, boosting them to 16GB despite the reduction of memory requirements by implementing some techniques shared by @xeroc that were discovered during the testnet stresstest last month. See the full update HERE

  • @cm-steem has proposed a synergy between BOINC and Bitshares using the decentralized computing power of BOINC to generate transaction to spam the testnet in a future testnet stresstest; with the power of this network me might finally be able to stress the Bitshares network! - find out more about this proposal on Steemit & Bitsharestalk

  • @bloggersclub (Ronny Boesing CEO of Openledger) has preformed the monthly sharedrop on ICOO holders. This month the 407 ICOO holders received a proportional share in 2.7 BTC. you can find out all the details HERE

  • @bloggersclub (Ronny Boesing CEO of Openledger) has preformed the buy back and burn operation on the OBITS market. This month 1,199,494 BTS and 0.8396 BTC were used to purchase a total of 102,520 OBIT from the market and burned (reducing the supply) you can find the full write up HERE

  • @pnc has created some graphics depicting the Graphene eco-system; you can find his post HERE and i have also included one of his pictures below.

  • BitUSD smartcoin supply has increase 70% W/W mainly due to savy traders who are using their BTS as collateral to borrow BitUSD and using it to buy BTS while the price of BTS is rising for compounded returns. There is also very large USD orders on the DEX supporting the current prices (BitUSD:BTS)

  • Fun Casino has paid out 0.47BTC to FUNC holders this week as a percentage of their monthly revenue of 1.59 BTC

  • @virtualgrowth is doing a weekly market update and token give away; Check out his post and vote on your favorite asset HERE, if you leave you Bitshares username in the comment you may even be one of the lucky recipentes of the token giveaway.

  • This weeks Bitshares hangout recording has been published and is availible HERE

  • This weeks Beyond Bitcoin hangout recording has been published. This week had talks from @peerplays and @officialfuzzy you can find more details and last weeks recording HERE

  • Current registered wallets/accounts within the Bitshares network is 161285; an increase of 2356 wallets/accounts since last week

  • The last asset registered this week is asset #1325 and it is named 'RUBLE' registered by 'blckchnd' with the description 'RUBLE is a derivative that tracks the real value of 1 Russian ruble. It is 100% decentralized, trustless and backed by collateral held by the blockchain in a smart contract.'.

What a great thorough article of the situation. Thank you so very much for all of this. I had already been informed with some of it, but you surely added up a lot of extra chunky goodness in there. Namaste :)

Thank you for the kind comment Eric :)

Definitely my pleasure and it is the least I can do for such a great amount of good appreciated work. Namaste :)

I love bitshares.

me too man; whats not to love. Thanks for the comment

I'm new to crypto, but some things tell me this is a keeper for years to come.

Welcome; watch yourself this space is addictive!

Relevant to the Bitshares testnet stress-test: Utilizing BOINC for Bitshares distributed computing projects! Steemit thread & Bitsharestalk thread

This is a very cool proposal indeed!

Thanks :)

Just a heads up, in the sentence "with the power of this network me might finally be able to stress the Bitshares network!" me -> we.

thanks for sharing @steempower

you are welcome ^_^
wish you all the best @steempower
good luck.!!

Forgive my ignorance, but im looking at the graph and fill orders are up but the most where the grey (created) then green (cancelled). Is this people just placing an order then cancelling it?

They are mostly bots providing liquidity, which is good in itself, but also indicates growing interest and usage.

Here's the interactive chart. Filled orders are some 30k - triple of one month ago.

As Markopaasila mentioned we have a Market making platform BTSBOT and Stakemachine both open source projects allowing people to easily run bots creating liquidity and some profit for their efforts. This is the cause of so many create and cancel orders as prices move around but if you check out cryptofresh you will see the filled orders is also on the same trajectory.
Nice to see you paying attention to the details :) thanks for the question/comment

Wow... very thorough article with lots of good information! As a relative newcomer to cryptos, it's great to have a lot of core information like like altogether in one place! Thank you!

A heck of a lot of information in this article. I'll probably revisit this a few times. Thanks for putting this together all in one place!
