My New Silver Stack Story & First Post - Starting From Scratch

I'm sure that many can relate to when you first started stacking silver. This is my start. After going through crazy cryptocurrency volatility earlier this year where my accounts would rise and drop a gutwrenching amount daily, I wanted to diversify a slice of some Ethereum profit into a more stable and tangible store of value. I figured that insane price movements in cryptos could be balanced out by the slow price movement of metals, something to literally outweigh the emotional stress from insane digital price bounces I've since become used to.

After perusing YouTube and buying some of the hype that silver might have a huge bull run due to upcoming demand from emerging technologies and the struggling fiat system, I bought my first 50 oz of bars directly from Silvertowne in May. I got 3 x 10 oz bars (prominent eagle design), and 20 x 1 oz bars (traditional miner logo). Pics are below. Once they arrived, I wanted more. It was nice to hold something that had an energy and glow to it, and a promise of value. This is the same stuff people financed wars with thousands of years ago! Starter purchase = 50 oz bars

I set a short term goal to get to 100 oz and to start accumulating coins for fun and utility if they were ever needed for currency or barter. I also wanted to get 1 oz of gold, but put that on the back burner. One gold coin didn't seem as interesting as mounds of silver for the same cost, plus silver seemed heavily undervalued with more room to run up.

I bought my first 20 2017 US American Eagles in a sealed tube on eBay from usgoldbureau in early July. I was happy with their service and left the tube sealed. I then turned my focus on accumulating some more cryptos during the summer bear market, but had the itch for more silver. Second purchase = 20 oz coins

Shortly after, I stumbled across JM Bullion's "sale" page and couldn't resist grabbing another 10 oz of Silvertowne 1 oz bars with Eagles on them. The price was just over spot, so I either fell for it, or made a good buy. Third purchase = 10 oz bars

After my bars arrived, it was time to look for more coins. I needed to hit my 100 oz target and decided to set a goal to buy a tube from various countries over time to be worldly and diverse. After mulling it over, I opted for a sealed tube of 25 Canadian Maple Leafs from usgoldbureau again on eBay because of their beautiful design and detail, especially its riveted texture on the reverse. These only came in tubes of 25, so ohhhh well, I guess I need to buy 5 more. Everything worked out well. I've also left these sealed. Fourth purchase = 25 oz coins

GOAL REACHED +5 (105 ounces total)

Thennnn, Pheli Mint came out with the 2017 first issue 1 oz Steem rounds. I told myself that I needed to stick to adding to my cryptocurrency investments, but supply/demand/we all know what happens next. I bought 4 and then received wise personal advice from @raybrockman to grab a few more if I could. I contacted the seller directly and they gave me a manual invoice to add 3 more to my order and avoid a new shipping fee. These will be mailed soon, so I put a placeholder picture in my collection below to save a spot for them. I plan on holding 5 and selling 2 in the future. Fifth purchase = 7 oz

Current stack: 112 oz. Is this the start of the road to 200? Yep. Steemit has also encouraged me to learn more about silver and see that I'm also a minnow in the metal game, but not for long.

Below are conservative pictures of my silver in their plastic and tubes. I prefer to leave them sealed for now to preserve their condition. It was difficult to not have the light reflect too much on the packaging, but I hope you can appreciate their designs up close.

Up next: I'm probably done with bars for a bit until I grab 3-4 more tubes of coins. I'm probably going to get another roll of American Eagles, but would love suggestions as to what foreign tubes are nice to have, but aren't too much of a premium.

My new stack of basic silver is nothing to brag about, but I was encouraged to share it nonetheless and hope it can help new stackers relate. Enjoy the pics and looking forward to your feedback!

Keep on stacking buddy. And keep me jealous by steeming on about your stack. Upvoted and resteemed good friend.

Thanks a million for your support. I'll post again when I grab my next set.

Nice stack! Now following

Stacking silver, its very addictive. To me its about becoming your own central bank, having a value in a real (and undervalued) asset than has many possibilities. Spot price could rocket to the moon but where would the fun in that be? i would then sell and lose my hobby stacking, its better if it slowly appreciates over the next decade. Also having the asset gives more options, you could sell it through various means but there is also an option to pawn it for a short term loan if an opportunity presented itself, you dont have to actually sell it to raise funds, silver can help you think outside of the box :)

Thanks for your advice. I never thought of pawn shop loans, but if sh*t ever hits the fan, I have an emergency outlet per your lesson.

You have put together quite the stack already! Also, welcome to the #steemsilvergold community! There are a lot of friendly folks out here.

Hi - yes, real silver. Thanks for asking and for following.

Thanks for sharing your growing stack.

Keep on steemin and keep onstacking

Silver is always good! Just followed!

Great post, nice bars. For me, I always open tubes unless they're sealed directly from the mint. Otherwise, how do you know they contain what you think they contain? I don't think you retain any value by not cracking them, because anyone buying off of you is certainly going to want to see the actual goods. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

Thanks for the advice. The listings said sealed mint sealed I believe, but perhaps there's a slight chance I just posted two tubes of lead. In general, of course it's wise to validate that the coins are authentic. I'll consider opening them up.

Do it do it do it. ....... We want to see the eagles.

I showed em. Check out my blog list!

You now face the question that haunts us all... How big of a stack is enough? When you know the answer... you will likely change your mind.

In the long run, I personally don't see me getting more than 5% of my net worth tied up in metals, but your feedback will probably prove true in the future. Always a new mintage or release... but in the future, I'd probably focus on collecting unique coins vs larger quantities of basic bars/coins to keep it fun.

Nice Stack my man! I love the photoshopping of the Steem coin!! haha

Ha - no photoshop, but a little old fashioned print out with scissors. Primitive photoshop maybe!
