I'm Not Toying With You Here: You Won't Believe What I Find On The Curbs Of My Neighborhood On Recycling Nights! 10 MORE FREE Things You'll Be Shocked Or Pissed Off By

in #recycling5 years ago (edited)

@riverflows is leading a "treasurefinds" contest I've partially inspired, so I'll offer a second set of crazy things I've found on the curbs on recycling nights to save and resell to promote her cause.

I hate when people are wasteful, so I do something about it. If this wastefulness pisses you off, we're on the same team.

I've found and sold thousands of things I've gotten for free. It's deeply rewarding, especially when I also ship most with packaging I've personally recycled. I usually only post things I've sold, but for promoting this challenge (not to be eligible for the prize), I'll post some current things that haven't all moved yet.

If you didn't catch my first post last night of 10 crazy recycled things conservatively valued over $1,650...

If not to sell, I also take things to give away as gifts or donate to thrift stores. As long as I'm saving them, it's meaningful to me. This never feels like work. It is pure humanitarian work with money as extra incentive.

Let's get on with the show:

This is a repeat, but it's so awesome I'll show it again and again. It's a champagne gun that I sold for $270 to someone who was thrilled with the deal!!

Another blast from the past, a fully automatic Nerf machine gun sold for $100 for a child's Christmas gift. Now that's rewarding...

Riot gear for those rowdy champagne and nerf parties? It's worth only about $60 cash, but it's badass. There was a second vest with it, but it was a bit run down.

Pop Quiz! WTF are these??

Answer! Over 350 sealed new emergency glow sticks! Bug out or rave on!?

Recycling is cool with this high end AC unit worth $200+. Lot of weight saved from waste here. I rolled it for about half a mile and the wheels were HOT.

A complete Shakespeare set from the 1880's given to a fellow Steemian as a housewarming gift, who paid for shipping.

Luxury leather books from the early 1980's. Books on right are still sealed new. The new ones are selling in the $40-$70 range EACH. Again, a lot of weight saved. @blewitt needs proof.

Coffee anyone? This Nespresso unit is perfectly functional. It'll sell for $80 cash. I constantly find Keurig and Nespresso machines, as well as other higher end brands like De'Longhi and Breville.

A repeat mention, but treasure nonetheless... all SEALED NEW Legos. Come on people!

More Legos? I have about 40 pounds of loose Legos I've found in tranches I'm going to sell for cash. Some are sets in bags I don't want to take the time to verify as complete. I've also sold about 100 mini-figures I found over time.

Heck, I even found this FULLY intact 2 weeks ago. FULLY intact!! I just took this pic now:

I've found sterling silver jewelry, gold jewelry, sex toys (left them), electric and acoustic guitars, drum sets, keyboards, you name it. Some I've posted before, so I'll try to not repeat too many.

I can literally go on for weeks posting on my 4+ years of doing this. I have endless examples, but more importantly, hope to find way more in the future. One day, I'll try to scale this up. It'll be magical.

Please keep me on your radar and I'll be pumped up to share and do more.

The goal here is to promote @riverflow's #treasurefinds contest, saving things from unnecessary waste, and financial freedom.

Please take care of our planet,
@steemmatt

If you're new to my posts on this, just Google steemmatt and recycling, and you'll see endless examples with proof. I've literally saved and sold thousands of things like this. No joke.

My last set of 10 fancy things.

WHAT?! DUDE I THINK YOU ARE LIVING ON A DIFFERENT DIMENSION! :O

Ha. It's also an expensive dimension to live in, so it has its trade-offs.

True! but with them just leaving their outside you have got to have a happy mood stepping outside the house! :D

I'm starting to wonder A LOT about the sick society you're living in! Awesome saves from landfill, incredible income stream, but how much do the values of these neighbours and friends become yours over time? Keep it happening - just wondering out loud.

@ecoTrain

Their values don't and won't become mine! I'm the end of the line for that BS around here and I try to help my friends with that too. The least they can do is donate it for a tax benefit, so it's win-win.

Amazing finds man :)

As ever I’m in total awe of the kind of stuff people choose to dump. Love these lists man!

Oh MY GOD! How can people throw out lego?? Do they know how much it's worth?? Let alone - god, can't you give it to a neighbourhood kid or something???? I won't let go of the Lego we collected (currently at my sisters with my nephews) which consists of my 70's lego, my kid's Dad's 70's lego, my husband's 70's lego, '90's lego and more recent ones. It's a huge stash and is going to be a family heirloom!

Thanks so much for responding to the #treasurefinds challenge. I am constantly inspired by your kerbside finds!! HOpefully more people will take up this tag. I know it'll take a while to catch on but I hope to encourage people to see the gifts right in front of their noses!

I think people are just spoiled and greedy. It also feels at times that it's parents clearing our their kids' rooms when they go off to college - or at least that's what I tell myself.

Your Lego talk made my reseller sirens go off. Those are definitely an heirloom. Are they organized by set, still built, or a big mix of awesome Legoeyness?

Just an awesome massive jumble box. I can still hear the scrape, scrape, scrape of lego as you search JUST for that right bit.

It's amazing what people throw discard from their lives...People throw self-respect and relationships away just as easily I think. Some amazing funds you've made. I was telling someone about those memory cards you find a while back, the celebrity ones. Mind-boggling what finds its way to the kerb.

A guy was here testing the sewing machine from my last post (which DID work) and he got away with a great deal for $180 - still nice. He asked where I got it since I don't fit the mold and he was shocked when I told him "the curb nearby 3 weeks ago." On the bright side, he just messaged me about 3 bar stools down the street from me to go check out, and my friend half a block down the road just called me about something and said she is looking for 2 bar stools, so the karma pays itself forward. I'm going to check them out now.

I see people picking things on the kerb here and there but have never heard anyone do as well as you. It's not all about the money either as you say right? Keeping things out of landfill is a good policy.

The money helps cover my expenses and live freely, and while that's important, that's about it. Crypto is how I view money now for better or worse. I do gauge my success in the recycling space by the number of things sold, and the money is a good metric of the "value" of how much others perceive my efforts in my mind. Money is more important to me on the thrifting side to make sure I'm getting a good ROI on my investments, but recycling has no cost to me and I actually view it as leadership, freedom, meditation, exercise, and social responsibility.

Well, it's a good habit to have, the recycling ethos. A pity more don't have it.

Ironically, this was right next to the bar stools when I went to check them out... good karma at work, eh?

Nice! I bet you could recycle that into something! 🤔

Not to drag this out, but this is where it's going (take a quick peek). This was 8 months ago, but it's growing more and more.

At least take pics of the sex toys on the curb next time...

Oh I did. I didn't save them as my favorite for nothing!! (Actually they're randomly in my photos and I couldn't find.)

Sup Dork?!? Enjoy the Upvote!!!

Some pretty great scores, I remember those legos! Solid second income for you living in that expensive ass state lol

Sorry, out of BEER, please retry later...
