Knowing SteemKitchen issue no 5 : Interview with @braaiboy
This week we continue with the interviews at SteemKitchen, it is the turn to meet our charismatic chef @BraaiBoy
1. Who is @BraaiBoy?
Ahhh... thanks for the compliment... but I'm no chef. Just a random dude that loves to braai (aka BBQ). My real name's Gareth... but even my friends call me BraaiBoy nowadays. I've been braaing every day for the last 9+ years (it started off as a drunken dare and things just escalated from there).
2. Where are you from and what do you do?
I'm from Pretoria, South Africa... affectionately know as SnorCity. It's the capital of SA, and way cooler than Cape Town... if you're ever in the area hit me up, and we'll get together for a "lekker braai".
I've been "professionally unemployed" for the last 4 or 5 years. I used to have a few businesses (mostly in IT), but sold up to travel the world and party. I do pretend to work some though, and make weekly braai recipe videos for @dtube.
3. Do you prefer to cook on a stove or grill?
I feel this is a trick question :P
Well... my stove literally doesn't work. 2 of the 4 plates trip the electricity, and I've just never got around to fixing it. i.e. Definitely prefer grilling ;-)
4. What do you like most about SteemKitchen ?
It's a great place to meet like-minded people and discover cool content. We all know the troubles with spam on Steemit, and the BS that occupies the Hot/trending pages... and @SteemKitchen helps restore a little faith in the platform.
5. What would you do to keep this incredible community growing?
Having had the pleasure of chatting to @freetissues a bit, I've heard his vision for taking @SteemKitchen to the masses, and I love it. Beyond contributing cool recipes, I hope to help out with some of the techie needs behind the scenes. It's been a while since I've done any real coding, but I'm sure with a bit of dusting off I can put some of those skills to good use on @SteemKitchen.
6. What has been the best dish you have cooked?
Sho... why don't you just ask me who my favourite child is rather? i.e. There are far too many to mention, but some that immediately come to mind are Braai Pie, Braai Sushi, Pizza Wors and most recently got my son involved in an episode and did some ice-cream on the braai. It's not always about being "gourmet", but rather experimenting (sometimes failing), but most importantly having fun.
7. If you could cook in a country, what would it be?
I'm fortunate enough to do a lot of travelling, and have lit a fire on every continent except Australia & Antarctica... I've got plans to be in Australia soon so, while not a "country", top of my bucket-list "places to braai" would definitely be Antarctica.
8. What do you like most about steemit? And how did it influence your life?
I'm still relatively new to Steemit, so it's hard to say just yet... but having said that it's consumed a LOT more of my time than I would like to admit... but I'm loving it!
9. What do you prefer to cook? Chicken, Beef or pork?
Moooooo :P
10. What are the ingredients that are never missing when you are cooking on the grill?
SMOKE! I treat smoke like a spice... and so should everyone else :-) More traditionally though, I keep things simple. It's really hard to top a perfectly aged Rump Steak grilled using just Olive Oil, Salt & Pepper... so yeah, Olive Oil, Salt & Pepper are always in my bag.
