Traveldigest

#1 Turtle Island, Borneo, Malaysia

First up, @narchuk takes us to Kalimantan, the Turtle Island, off Borneo, Malaysia. The waters around the island are beautiful and saturated with life, including small, medium and large turtles. There is even a cave of turtles, which has its own legend about Prince Sipadan and a tragic love. Many turtles live and die in this cave—not so much from the legend—but from a lack of light the size of the opening and a lack of air. Diving quotas are in place due to its popularity and very strong currents. However, if you do go, there are plenty of underwater species to be seen.

#2 Stonehenge replica, Texas, USA

Next, @liquidtravel takes us to a replica of Stonehenge and the Moai heads of Easter Island in Texas, USA. It all started with a huge slab of limestone leftover from a construction project. The owner—Sheppard, and his mate Hill—wanted people driving to see it so he constructed a 13ft/4m tall arch behind it. Once the arch was built they commented on its resemblance to Stonehenge, England, and decided to replicate the whole thing. But the project didn't stop there. A year and a half later, Sheppard returned from Easter Island was inspired to recreate the Moai heads. Only two heads were created, which look remarkably similar to the real Moai heads, although slightly more comical.

#3 The 25 de Abril Bridge, Lisbon, Portugal

Finally, @for91days takes us to the Ponte 25 de Abril in Lisbon, Portugal. While this bridge strongly resembles the Golden Gate Bridge, it is not nearly as long, nor as high, nor is Alcatraz visible in the distance. One of the worst things about this bridge is that there’s no sidewalk for pedestrians. Furthermore, the traffic is always heavy making pulling over unthinkable. On the plus side, there is an option to get on top of this bridge. For €6, you can have the Ponte 25 de Abril Experience, which is basically an elevator ride to an observation deck at car-level. Your money also allows you to see the unbelievable mass of cables which support the bridge, learn about the construction process, and appreciate a decent view of Lisbon.
