Mumbai ✈️ Zurich ✈️ Toronto

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Hi everyone,

How are you all?
I am writing after a bit of gap. I have been ranting soo much about how busy I was in some posts made before. I am not yet free but I fear I may fall into some writer's block. So I decided to gather some pictures and decided to do this post. And currently I am in another timezone. Yep @silenteyes silently moved to Canada from India

I can't think of anything else to write currently. So in this post I am going to talk about my loooong journey from India to Canada. We are moving because of my husband's @sajinsv work. (He is yet to make a post on steemit.I don't know on which rahu kaalam did I create his account😃 Its been one month and he is unable to find some spare time to make a post)

So on the begining of March we got the news about this transfer, but the date was not finalised. So we were very relaxed.Going about our usual routine,ranting,cooking,eating,sleeping-waking late and all that until one day the dates got confirmed and we were to be leaving in freaking TWO WEEKS !!! I am a person who freaks out a lot on everything. So you can imagine how horrific I would have been. But in the last moment someone from the office approved on another date which ended in a lot of confusion and our journey got extended to another week and I relaxed a bit.

So now I have two jobs.Empty the appartment you are living now and to pack things for abroad.I thought it was an easy task and could handle it by myself. @sajinsv was in the office most of the time where he had a senior who told to come to the office on the morning of the day of travelling also😜 All the other things he left for me to handle and arrange. When I finally realised the amount of work I started sweating, real sweating 😐 By God's grace we had some experienced ,wise relatives who drove and came from far places after work as saviours at those last moments. 🙏

We arranged a movers and packers for shifting our things from flat.
And I had a fight with the packing guys 😁. Normally I am not a person to engage in a fight, but in those moment of despair, sleepless days and worry things like this happens. I was going around and putting numbers on the packed things as an account of number of things and the packing person was watching it too and even asked me to do it with permanent marker.Later he started shouting 'why did you put numbers madamji. Now where will I put mine??' In his point of view he is correct. But he should have informed earlier or at least stopped me when he saw me writing.

It was very sad to see our place empty like this where we lived for two years😭

Next one was packing our luggage. We had to try a hundred permutations and combinations to balance the allowed baggage weight. On the last day we found out that our cabin bag was the wrong size. We had to leave many things we thought of carrying with us due to weight issues. Heartbreaking one was leaving the camera tripod😭 and also we did the foolish act of leaving some much needed winter clothes.
Many such out of control, unexpected occurances were happening and my head was exploding. I just wanted to fast forward everything and be sleeping on one of that aeroplane.

So finally we wrapped up everything, Bid an very emotional goodbye to our people and got on a cab to Mumbai.
We had our flight sheduled at 12:55am from Mumbai Chatrapati Shivaji Airport. As it was a public holiday fearing the Mumbai traffic we planned to leave at 3pm itself which later got late by one hour and we left at 4pm. To our surprise there was no traffic and we reached from Pune to Mumbai in two and half hours. Now whatttt!!!!! We waited outside with huge luggages for the counter to open.

IMG_20180330_191620.jpg
Mumbai Airport

The next shock came when we couldn't spot our flight name on any of those counters and when we enquired one of the staff, who without any expression said there is no flight from this airlines today. I had a mini heart attack😱. But came back to life when we met another colleague of @sajinsv who was flying on the same day on a different airline also got the same reply.

Later on furthur enquiry a guy whom I saw as God 😄 explained neatly to us that, its just that our tickets is issued by Air Canada but our airlines is Swiss Airlines. Phewww!!!!
So now you think everything will be smooth??Not yet girl !!

Finally after all security and the not so pleasent immigration guy's roasting we reached the respective gate only to find a big commotion in there. FLIGHT DELAY !!! We had a connection flight from Zurich and cannot miss that. Some guy in the business class opened the emergency door. These business class peoples !! (no offence😁) Thankfully all passengers who had a connection flight from Zurich was ensured flying and some were transfered to another flight.

And also the guy at baggage check in was very friendly , and the few extra kg's was not an issue. He also insisted us to check in one of our cabin bag also so that we can travel freely. All the things that I left behind due to weight issues flashed in my mind . EACH and EVERYTHING !!!😐

Now it was time for first half of the long journey and hopefully now everything will turn normal and smooth. We were to fly 9 hours to Zurich,Switzerland. To be frank the flight was a bit congested and we got the middle seat . As we boarded at night most of the time were spent sleeping and a bit of movie watching .

IMG_20180331_014752.jpg

More than going to Canada ,this touch down was what excited me the most. Yippieee Switzerland😄 !! Switzerland is on everyone's bucketlist. May be now I can cross atleast HALF Switzerland from my list😁
We arrived early morning 7am at Zurich and this is what it looked like👇

IMG_20180331_083444.jpg

IMG_20180331_083114.jpg

We had a stopover of 3hrs at Zurich but as the earlier flight got a bit delayed we were left with only 2 hours and it was just enough for the boarding procedures.

IMG_20180331_094629.jpg
Just before the take off. Soo near yet soo far. Just wished I could jump off that window and roam around Switzerland just once. Hmm Sigh😐

Time for another 9 hours of cramped sitting. Thankfully on the second flight I got a window seat. I had nothing much to do other than clicking pictures, sipping on some flight wine and lean on the window to view the sea of clouds , eat the food they provide , watch movies etc.

IMG_4310.JPG

I thought the wine would put me to sleep. But I was wide awake throughout the second flight .😄

IMG_4323.JPG

I clicked a lot of these cloud pictures ~ over Mumbai , over Zurich , over Canada which I will be steepshoting soon 😁

Just as our journey was ending I took a peak outside the window and this is what I saw. I guess it is frozen ice !!!

IMG_4330.JPG

Then we landed at Toronto Pearson Airport at 12pm local time . The airport was huge, calm and very quieter unlike other airports.

IMG-20180401-WA0009.jpg

We followed other passengers through arrival .Took a washroom break and when we came out the whole area was empty .We walked and walked. After a long session of immigration formalities got in to the biggest cab and landed in our hotel room with out enormous baggages by evening.

IMG-20180331-WA0026.jpeg

There is more portions of baggages behind camera !!!

Hotel room was warm and cozy .It came with a kitchen😐 Just when I was thinking of taking a cooking break😜

Then we went out again, putting layers of our winter gears for eating something, as our stomach was rumbling loudly. We found a nearby Mc Donald and decided to go inside as that was that only thing we had eaten before and hence can order blindly. We will surely try all the Canadian local cuisines but not today. Today we just want to eat and go back to sleep as soon as possible.

After coming back and showering went to sleep . The next day we woke up very early about 5am. Maybe because of jetlag . Then we did another round of audio and video calling to India.

IMG_20180401_072700.jpg

This is the window view from our room.

As it looked sunny we decided to go out and get some neccessary supplies. Again adding on winter gears . It was very chilly outside 1 or 2 degrees. If there is no wind then its ok. But a slight wind and it will send shivers down your spine literally.

IMG-20180401-WA0016.jpg

Canada is beautiful. Its calm and quite. People are friendly and always smiling 😊

IMG-20180402-WA0061.jpg

This is how I go out😁

We went some grocery shopping.

IMG-20180402-WA0014.jpg

We found an Asian grocery store and look what I found👆 Coconuts....expensive.....😱

On the way back I found this also. Might be some service manhole kind of thing??

IMG-20180401-WA0018.jpg

Since now I view everything from blog point of view I went on clicking everything I saw on the way. Lols 😁😁

So thats it. And I am getting busy again. Need to find a home ,setting it up etc etc
Until next time hugs and kisses to all❤️
Keep steeming

I was about to fall asleep before seeing this post. The heading you have given literally lured me in to continue reading. I'm a big fan of travellers like S.K.Pottekkaadu and Santhosh George Kulangara. Reading your post gave me a feeling of watching Safari TV.

I really enjoyed reading this. Visiting and working in countries like Canada and Australia is a dream for us Indians. Congrats for making it. Wishing every success to you and your family.

Now working in Canada is not a big deal. They are offering PR easily now because people are moving out of Canada. If you are still interested go grab your PR. @sathyasankar

Thank you @bala41288 (Your name having a zip code is difficuilt to type!) for this information.. I want to research more on this as im very much interested!

Canada offers a wide variety of opportunities for higher studies too. IELTS shouldn't be a problem for you , as you have good command over language.

I don't understand what you mean by Zip code. :-)

You can search online to get more details about it.

The number 41288 is much similar to some postal codes. That's what i meant! 🤔

OMG!! Brilliant...I never thought that way! So we can easily send him wishes on his birthday!

Even my email id has these number like thing. But I am not sure. I just guessed. :P

I am also an avid watcher of Safari tv, Sancharam and most importantly Sanchariyude Dayarikuripukal . Don't know if I will be able to watch them here. I have read SK's novels but sad didn't get a chance to read a single travalogue by him.
Thanks a lot for the wishes😊

Mum had the exact same dilemma when we first moved from India to London, she would tell me stories of how she had to unpack all the stuff in the new apartment in the new country and how it was new and nerve racking for her to do everything.

Ohh wow !!! Didn't know you were from India !😊

Canada is a nice place to be. So you are going to be put up in Toronto ? I used to work there :)

Yep we are in Toronto. The place is beautiful but i am having a hard time adjusting with the climate😄

Thats going to take a while ... keep the throat and ear protected. Also use sun glasses as the light will be often harsh (when there is light). Most important thing is, understand that there is not much sunlight and get ample light everyday. If needed buy blue colour lights with a light frequency of 370 - 400 nm light .. ie the kind of light that we find in insect catchers. If we don't do this, we will get depressed. I think light is the MOST important thing that one needs there.

I have a feeling that is one of the reasons I'm depressed , never ending winter in china 🤷🤷 need sun

I have heard that from people who lived in cold countries. Better try the blue light soon @ashley4u.

More than the lack of sun light and hormonal imbalances I think once you realize the sky is like a mirror made of mercury, its starts impacting more I think ... while I had colleauges except 3 of us, rest became very different the first time. (We were probably mostly out side, having food from all sorts of resturants, being chased by police for over speeding or busy with our cooking experiments turned fire-drills etc!)

@bobinson Thats a new info for me about the blue light. Would like to know more about it. What do we do with it?? Keep as lamps in rooms?? Seems like a good idea because I am already getting frustrated when not able to go out. Since its a new place everyone adviced to not go out alone and all those parently stuffs. And i am a person who can go about only straight lines . One left or right and its easy for me to get lost. Lolss😂
I bought a winter mask that covers whole face and neck , except eyes from India itself since I can get a tonsilitis attack anytime 😐
Also heard the ozone gap comes above Canada. but I am craving for sunlight here.

What is this ozone gap?

There are some regions where the concentration of ozone layer is less/depleting due to pollution and all. It is dangerous as ozone is what protects us from the harmful UV rays.

Also heard the ozone gap comes above Canada. but I am craving for sunlight here.

I didn't knew this .. We were so bored out there that if we knew it, we had tried to find the exact spot :-D

Hahaha !! It affects Northern Canada I think.

Canada is a beautiful place. I haven't been there but one of my friend lives there for nearly 8 years. I have heard lots of stories from him. Climate is something you have to be careful about. Proper clothing will help adapt. Wonderful article.

The climate is extreme here. Its still winter . Today morning it was -3 degrees.
Whenever you want to go out you have to put on layers of clothing. That itself is a tiring task 😐
Am just waiting for the summers to go out and explore a bit 😁 I guess even in summers it will be a bit chilly for people like us.

Yes we are used to hot climate. Adapting to cold climate will take some time I guess. But one of my office client used to tell that it is all about clothing and not about the temperature. Wish you have a good time there.

I got some neccessary winter supplies from India itself but I think I'll need more. 😄
Thankya😊

Wow chechi , you are in Canada now , wowwwwww , and the way you wrote this , I felt how you must have felt . Anyway may God bless you guys and this new beginning...hehe njn kandu coconut hehe 💓💓💓💓
