Thanks for participating in the second #promptparty! It was great reading about all of your ideas about what constitutes family.

@Shawnamawna wrote a beautiful, aching post about the anticipation of continued abuse--"You already know. You know what comes next..."--and her refusal to stay silent, captured in the moment her mother leans over a cup of coffee to "confide" in her. Her story reminds us how incredibly complicated family can be.

@arbitrarykitten's post is a litany of meaning, because family denotes many things for a woman with Italian heritage, two children, and some exceptional people who've been elevated to more-than-friend status.

@rachelhanson10's response looks outward as much as inward. Even has she shares a photo of her beautiful young daughters and her supportive husband, she reasons, "You are a member of my family if you are working toward a more peaceful and loving world." Cheers to that.

Finally, I wrote a little tribute to just a handful of the beautiful women who make my life better, after experiencing upheaval in my family throughout my childhood and adolescence--upheaval that left me wondering what exactly family even is.
