The Walking Dead: Midseason Finale
Last Sunday the final midseason of the tenth season of Walking Dead was broadcast. Between ups and downs the TV series, taken from the comics of Robert Kirkman, had accustomed us to the final midseason and to the usually crackling season finals. If we were to draw up a ranking of the final season / midseason of these 10 years we could undoubtedly declare that the one that was aired last Sunday was the worst ever. The World Before is a dull episode, badly built, lacking in atmosphere, free of dialogues, zero in generating interest. They are atavistic defects of the AMC series. We have been waiting for years for upsetting developments and a depth of thought that the series deserves. The concept that 10 years ago had upset the world of seriality today is nothing but a tired repetition that frankly tired even the most ardent fans. From year to year the cast and the producers offer us the usual rhyme. "It will be a fantastic season". "Next season will be the best." "What awaits you will surprise you". Too bad that this has not happened for years now. We are waiting for it. But it never comes.
Domenica scorsa è andato in onda il midseason finale della decima stagione di Walking Dead. Tra alti e bassi la serie tv, tratta dai fumetti di Robert Kirkman, ci aveva abituati a dei midseason finali e a dei season finale solitamente scoppiettanti. Se dovessimo stilare una classifica dei season/midseason finale di questi 10 anni potremmo senza dubbio decretare che quello andato in onda domenica scorsa sia stato il peggiore di sempre. The World Before è un episodio scialbo, costruito malissimo, privo di atmosfera, sgombro di dialoghi, nullo nel generare interesse. Sono difetti atavici della serie AMC. Sono anni che attendiamo sviluppi stravolgenti e una profondità di pensiero che la serie meriterebbe. Il concept che 10 anni fa aveva stravolto il mondo della serialità oggi non è altro che una stanca ripetizione che francamente ha stancato anche i fan più accaniti. Di anno in anno il cast e i produttori ci propinano la solita filastrocca. "Sarà una stagione fantastica". "La prossima stagione sarà la migliore". "Quello che vi aspetta vi sorprenderà". Peccato che questo, oramai da anni non si verifica. Lo aspettiamo. Ma non arriva mai.
This eighth episode is a disaster. Carol is ridiculed. The most badass of the group ends up in an avoidable and predictable trap. Siddiq's death is ridiculed in 5 minutes and rendered useless. A character who had become principal (and this says a lot about the quality of the characters left) sacrificed on the altar of an interesting twist but immediately made vain. The flicker that in other cases had arrived is missing. Missing the in-depth analysis necessary for potentially interesting storylines such as the man "caught" by Michonne. The most banal dialogues and music of a rain in a November November. The big questions we have been waiting for 10 years remain unaddressed. Where does the epidemic come from? Who was the patient zero? What remains of civilization in the rest of the world? And we could go on for hours. At this point it is really difficult to find a reason to go on.
Questo ottavo episodio è un disastro. Carol viene ridicolizzata. La più badass del gruppo finisce in una trappola evitabile e prevedibile. La morte di Siddiq viene ridicolizzata in 5 minuti e resa inutile. Un personaggio che era diventato principale (e questo la dice lunga sulla qualità dei personaggi rimasti) sacrificato sull'altare di un twist interessante ma subito reso vano. Manca il guizzo che in altri casi era arrivato. Manca l'approfondimento necessario a storyline potenzialmente interessanti come quella dell'uomo "catturato" da Michonne. I dialoghi e le musiche oramai più banali di una pioggia in un Novembre Londinese. Le grandi domande che attendiamo da 10 anni restano non affrontate. Da cosa nasce l'epidemia? Chi è stato il paziente zero? Che ne resta della civiltà nel resto del mondo? E potremmo continuare per ore. Arrivati a questo punto è davvero difficile trovare un motivo per andare avanti.
