Así que amablemente los invito a que me acompañen en este corto recorrido por mi ciudad y alrededores; una tierra naturalmente maravillosa que ha sido opacada por la presencia en zonas rurales de grupos armados ilegales denominados guerrilleros y paramilitares en Colombia, pero que sin lugar a dudas es mucho más que esto.

So I kindly invite you to join me on this short tour of my city and surroundings; a naturally wonderful land that has been overshadowed by the presence in rural areas of illegal armed groups known as guerrillas and paramilitaries in Colombia, but which undoubtedly is much more than this.

Vamos a Florencia Caquetá/Let's go to Florencia Caquetá

Florencia es la capital del Departamento del Caquetá, ubicada al sur de Colombia y es llamada "La puerta de Oro de la Amazonía Colombiana" porque conecta a la amazonía con el resto de país y viceversa. Aquí no hay grandes industrias y su economía se basa en el comercio y la ganadería.

Florencia is the capital of the Department of Caquetá, located in southern Colombia and is called "The Golden Gate of the Colombian Amazon" because it connects the Amazon with the interior of the country and vice versa. Here there are no large industries and their economy is based on trade and livestock.

Las viviendas de propiedad horizontal son incipientes y justo ahora estan comenzando a construirse este tipo de edificaciones. Predominan las casas de barrio y los conjuntos residenciales. La ciudad esta dividida entre invasiones con ranchos de madera o construcciones muy humildes, casas antiguas, hasta señoriales, elegantes y modernas casas.

The houses of horizontal property are incipient and just now they are beginning to build this type of buildings. The neighborhood houses and the residential complexes predominate. The city is divided between invasions with wooden huts or very humble constructions, old houses, and elegant and modern houses.

Este es un conjunto residencial tipo campestre.

This is a residential complex country type.

Este conjunto residencial es reciente, su diseño es muy diferente a lo que culturalmente estamos acostumbrados a ver. Algunos dicen que es una adaptación del modelo europeo.

This residential complex is recent, its design is very different from what we are accustomed to see culturally. Some say it is an adaptation of the European model.

Esta es una casa antigua y humilde, pero quizás en sus años de juventud fue pudiente.

This is an old and humble house, but perhaps in his younger years it was not like that.

Vamos a la Plaza San Francisco/Let's go to the Plaza San Francisco

Frente a esta plaza está ubicada la Catedral Nuestra Señora de Lourdes. Esta es la sede principal de la iglesia católica y fue la segunda construcción que se hizo en nuestra ciudad en el año de 1908; sus inicios se remontan a un rancho de madera y a una estatua de la virgen María que donó un colono agradecido con la bonanza del caucho.

In front of this square is the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. This is the main headquarters of the Catholic Church and was the second construction that was made in our city in the year 1908; its beginnings go back to a wooden ranch and to a statue of the Virgin Mary who donated a settler grateful with the bonanza of rubber.

En esta vista lateral de la plaza, observamos una estatua blanca de San Francisco de Asís, quien siempre está ahí para dar la bienvenida a la iglesia. Aquí podemos apreciar este centenario árbol que ha permanecido estoico desde los tiempos de la colonización de nuestra ciudad; entre rezos, difuntos, matrimonios, bautizos, manifestaciones populares en la plaza, el tránsito de miles de vehículos, de estudiantes, transeúntes, vendedores ambulantes y uno que otro indigente.

In this side view of the square, we see a white statue of St. Francis of Assisi, who is always there to welcome the church. Here we can appreciate this centenary tree that has remained stoic since the times of the colonization of our city; between prayers, deceased, marriages, christenings, popular demonstrations in the square, the transit of thousands of vehicles, students, passers-by, street vendors and the occasional destitute.

En el año 2016, se ubicó en esta misma plaza, un monumento que simboliza a las víctimas inocentes del conflicto armado; las imágenes muestran el destrozo de sus piernas por las minas quiebrapatas. Este es un tema doloroso que afectó a muchos campesinos ubicados en zona rural del Departamento. Los vientos de paz ahora suenan como dulces susurros y se respira un ambiente más tranquilo; sin embargo... nadie sabe si estos susurros son duraderos y honestos.

In 2016, a monument that symbolizes the innocent victims of the armed conflict was located in this square; the images show the destruction of his legs by the anti personal mines. This is a painful issue that affected many farmers located in the rural area of the Department. The winds of peace now sound like sweet whispers and a calmer atmosphere is breathed; however ... nobody knows if these whispers are long-lasting and honest.

Ahora vamos al Edificio Curiplaya/Now let's go to the Curiplaya Building

Este edificio tuvo su origen en un rancho de madera construido a la rivera de una caudalosa quebrada llamada la Perdiz; fue la primera construcción de la aldea, en el año de 1902. En este rancho funcionaba una bodega cauchera y era el puerto donde llegaban las embarcaciones con el producto del caucho. En el año de 1950 se terminó de construir esta edificación estilo colonial donde funcionó como hotel. Después que cerró el hotel, se convirtió en sede de una emisora, para finalmente pasar a manos del estado, donde funcionan diversas oficinas. La última remodelación que se hizo fue en el año de 1995 y es la que hoy se mantiene. En el año 2000 este edificio fue declarado patrimonio cultural nacional.

This building had its origin in a wooden ranch built on the banks of a mighty river called La Perdiz; It was the first construction of the village, in the year 1902. In this ranch worked a rubber warehouse and was the port where the boats arrived with the rubber product. In the year 1950, this colonial-style building was finished, where it functioned as a hotel. After the hotel closed, it became the headquarters of a station, to finally become the property of the state, where various offices operate. The last remodeling that was done was in the year of 1995 and is the one that remains today. In the year 2000 this building was declared a national cultural monument.

Vamos a la Alcaldía/Let's go to the Mayor's Office

A un costado de este edificio podemos apreciar un mural realizado en el año 2010 por el artista Gonzalo Orozco Rodríguez. La técnica utilizada es mosaico en cerámica. Este mural ilustra a los pobladores nativos indígenas en su entorno natural.

On one side of this building we can see a mural made in 2010 by the artist Gonzalo Orozco Rodríguez. The technique used is ceramic mosaic. This mural illustrates the indigenous native inhabitants in their natural environment.

Hagamos un recorrido por algunas calles principales de la ciudad/Let's take a tour of some main streets of the city.

Ustedes pueden notar que hay mucha afluencia de tráfico y aun no es el momento de mayor congestión. Parece que las vías se están quedando pequeñas en relación al crecimiento de la población.

You may notice that there is a lot of traffic and it is not yet the time of greatest congestion. It seems that the roads are becoming small in relation to the growth of the population.

Atracciones turísticas/Tuorist attractions

Tenemos dos museos, uno de ellos es el museo etnográfico y centro indigenista, lugar donde pueden observar piezas indígenas precolombinas ; pero sin lugar a dudas el mayor atractivo es el ecoturismo. Nuestra ciudad esta rodeada a lo ancho y a lo largo de hermosas llanuras, montañas, cascadas y muchos ríos. Hay grupos de caminantes y recreacionistas organizados que constantemente ofrecen a la población y los turistas actividades como el senderismo, paisajismo, canotaje, canopy. También hay muchos balnearios donde se puede disfrutar de la playa, baño en las cristalinas aguas de varios ríos y piscinas naturales.

We have two museums, one of them is the ethnographic museum and indigenist center, where you can observe pre-Columbian indigenous pieces; but without a doubt the greatest attraction is ecotourism. Our city is surrounded in width and along beautiful plains, mountains, waterfalls and many rivers. There are groups of organized walkers and recreationists who constantly offer the population and tourists activities such as hiking, landscaping, canoeing, canopy. There are also many recreational centers where you can enjoy the beach, swim in the crystal clear waters of several rivers and natural pools.

Hagamos un recorrido por algunos de estos lugares/Let's take a tour of some of these places

A pocos kilómetros de la entrada a la ciudad tenemos el bosque de niebla más bajo del mundo, a 1400 metros sobre el nivel del mar.

A few kilometers from the entrance to the city we have the lowest fog forest in the world, at 1400 meters above sea level.

En este lugar hay muchas cascadas como esta.

In this place there are many waterfalls like this one.

En la misma ruta y muy cerca a la ciudad, el clima es cálido. En esta zona se encuentran los balnearios con acceso al río Hacha y sus playas, un lugar con mucha biodiversidad e ideal para realizar diversas actividades :

On the same route and very close to the city, the weather is warm. In this area there are recreational centers with access to the Hacha River and its beaches, a place with a lot of biodiversity and ideal for various activities:

Un lugar perfecto para practicar senderismo y actividades acuáticas como el canotaje o canopy.

A perfect place for hiking and water activities such as canoeing or canopy.

Para disfrutar de un refrescante baño o practicar la natación.

To enjoy a refreshing swim or practice swimming.

Un lugar perfecto para celebrar de manera diferente un cumpleaños, matrimonio, incluso una velada romántica.

A perfect place to celebrate a birthday, marriage, even a romantic evening in a different way.

Para disfrutar de una barbacoa.

To enjoy a barbecue.

También para jugar y... esta chica va directo al agua.

Also to play and ... this girl goes straight to the water.

Este es una de mis actividades preferidas, observar y capturar con mi cámara el chapoteo del agua cristalina contra las piedras. También utilizó estos pequeños chorros de agua para sumergirme en ellos y obtener un masaje tonificador gratuito.

This is one of my favorite activities, observe and capture with my camera the splash of crystal clear water against the stones. I also used these small jets of water to immerse myself in them and get a free toning massage

Y sin lugar a dudas, un maravilloso lugar para encontrarse consigo mismo, mientras la mirada se pierde entre tanta belleza y solo escuchas el susurro genuino de la naturaleza.

And without a doubt, a wonderful place to meet yourself, while the look is lost among so much beauty and you only hear the genuine whisper of nature.

Nuestra ciudad no solo es la puerta de entrada, sino la ciudad más grande en este universo del amazonas y aun así solo es un pequeño punto. Estamos completamente rodeados de naturaleza.

Our city is not only the gateway, but the largest city in this universe of the Amazon and even then it is only a small point. We are completely surrounded by nature.

Ahora vamos a un caserío llamado Puerto Arango, a quince kilómetros de distancia de la ciudad; durante todo el trayecto se observa una mezcla de verdes vibrantes terrenales que contrastan con el cielo vestido de azul y blancos pompones.

Now we go to a hamlet called Puerto Arango, fifteen kilometers away from the city; Throughout the journey you can see a mix of earthly vibrant greens that contrast with the sky dressed in blue and white pompoms.

En puerto arango podemos dar un paseo de dos horas por el río orteguaza en un ferry, o tan solo disfrutar del arribo de embarcaciones rústicas que llegan desde las profundidades de la selva, donde solo se puede acceder a través del río.

In Puerto Arango we can take a two-hour trip along the river orteguaza on a ferry, or just enjoy the arrival of rustic boats that arrive from the depths of the jungle, where you can only access through the river.

Desde esta piedra se puede observar el imponente paisaje del puerto.

From this stone you can see the impressive landscape of the port.

De regreso, se visualiza un mágico atardecer mientras el sol da el último beso a las palmeras.

On the way back, a magical sunset is visualized while the sun gives the last kiss to the palm trees.

Vamos ahora en otra ruta, en dirección al oriente; ahí encontramos balnearios con piscinas y venta de comidas típicas. El paisaje es de pequeñas montañas, llanuras y quebradas pedregosas; el bosque es menos espeso y la temperatura es mucho más caliente que la zona del río hacha.

We are now on another route, going east; there we find recreational centers with swimming pools and sale of typical foods. The landscape is of small mountains, plains and stony rivers; the forest is less thick and the temperature is much hotter than the river Hacha area.

A solo 12 kilómetros de la ciudad, encontramos un balneario denominado las pailas, ahí la quebrada mochilero pasa por profundidades rocosas formando a su paso piscinas. Un paisaje hermoso y la temperatura del agua es perfecta.

Just 12 kilometers from the city, we find a place called the pailas, there the river Mochilero goes through rocky depths forming pools. A beautiful landscape and the water temperature is perfect.

A los alrededores del lugar crecen de manera silvestre flores heliconias.

Heliconias flowers grow wild around the place.

Y orquídeas adheridas a los árboles frondosos.

And orchids adhered to the leafy trees.

En el camino hay paradores, donde se puede disfrutar diversos postres, bebidas, productos de queso, como estas celestiales almojábanas.

On the way there are shops, where you can enjoy various desserts, drinks, cheese products, such as these celestial almojábanas.

Gastronomía/Gastronomy

Nuestra región es esencialmente ganadera, así que hay mucha carne en el plato. Nuestras costumbres culinarias son una mezcla de varias regiones del país. Veamos algunas de ellas.

Our region is essentially livestock, so there is a lot of meat on the plate. Our culinary customs are a mixture of several regions of the country. Let's see some of them.

El sancocho/The sancocho

Es uno de los platos típicos preferidos para consumir fuera de casa en restaurantes de tipo campestre, especialmente los domingos, días festivos y uno de los grandes invitados para preparar en la playa, en un fogón improvisado con piedras y leña.

It is one of the favorite dishes to be consumed outside the home in country-style restaurants, especially on Sundays, holidays and one of the great guests to prepare on the beach, in a fireplace improvised with stones and firewood.

El sancocho es una sopa a base pollo, plátano verde, papa y yuca. La sopa se sirve con cilantro y en un plato aparte, el pollo con la papa, yuca y plátano, al que se le agrega un guiso de cebolla y tomate. Se acompaña con arroz y la mayoría de veces con guacamole.

The sancocho is a soup based on chicken, green plantain, potatoes and cassava. The soup is served with cilantro and in a separate dish, chicken with potatoes, yucca and banana, to which is added an onion and tomato stew. It is accompanied with rice and most often with guacamole.

Asado al carbón/Roasted in coal

Este es un plato muy amado en nuestra región. Presente en muchos restaurantes campestres; un invitado especial en reuniones de amigos, familiares etc y el preferido para hacer en la playa del río. El asado contiene carne de res o cerdo, papa y yuca cocida, y algunas veces plátano maduro asado. Usualmente se acompaña con guacamole.

This is a very beloved dish in our region. Present in many country restaurants; a special guest in meetings of friends, relatives etc and the favorite to do on the river beach. The roast contains beef or pork, potatoes and cooked cassava, and sometimes roasted ripe plantain. It is usually accompanied with guacamole.

De res /Beef

De cerdo/Pork Meat

Plátano maduro asado: asarlo con la cáscara evita la carbonización y pérdida de liquido, lográndose mayor concentración de su dulce sabor.

Roasted ripe banana: roasting it with the peel prevents carbonization and loss of liquid, achieving a greater concentration of its sweet flavor.

Jugo de Acaí/juice of Acaí

Aunque en nuestra ciudad el consumo de Acaí aun no es muy usual, la fruta sí es originaria de la selva amazónica y se exporta muy bien a países europeos donde es incorporada en suplementos alimenticios; muy atractiva por su composición nutricional y antioxidantes. En la ciudad, tenemos un local que ya esta ofertando un jugo fresco de esta fruta.

Although in our city the consumption of Acai is still not very usual, the fruit itself is native to the Amazon rainforest and is exported very well to European countries where it is incorporated in food supplements; very attractive for its nutritional composition and antioxidants. In the city, we have a store that is already offering a fresh juice of this fruit.
