I Will Promote Your Posts For Free!

As someone who is working in the entertainment and multimedia industry, I cannot overstress the importance of coverage and promotion. It doesn't matter how good your product or service is, if only a handful of people learn about it, you are going to have a hard time succeeding. Advertising has proven to be an effective way to gain followers that otherwise, would be impossible to reach, because of different factors like demographics or competition. Whether you like it or not ads affect our decisions subconsciously.
On Steemit we have our own economy running, but I'm very surprised by the fact that the promoted tabs on most trending topics are almost empty. Steemit's main promoted category is really the only place where there is some competition among posts. I know most steemians never look at the promoted tabs, nevertheless, this is not a reason not to put your work out there. You might not get a huge upvote boost, but again, this is coverage and a way to recruit more followers, and who knows sometimes you might get lucky.
Speaking from my own experience on Steemit I can say that promoting helped me gain more followers than payouts, but at this point, I think making connections​ and building​ a user base are more important than the current​ payouts.
