What motivate you to go out and do these projects? Never would have thought to build a bee habitat. Are these honey 🐝 bees? I hope you get to harvest some honey as a result. That would be awesome.

It costs 5 SVS a night! lol

I’m doing gardening and worm farming etc... and when you get into that you will learn many related stuffs and building a bee hotel is one of the projects that you hear people do when gardening. Bees are important for the garden as they help with pollination of the plants.

This bee hotel is not for honey bees. I have another bee project for the honey but it’s a bit more expensive so I’m waiting for the price of Steem to go up before I can invest in one.

Great contest bro, here is my entry from a flower bush that grows in my backyard called Fuchsia. These flowers naturally hang downward, so I propped them up for these photos:

This one was found on the ground next to the bush, I did not pluck it off the plant:

These flowers are quite unique looking, and the only flowers left from the summer in our garden, that have not yet died off due to cold weather. I hope you like my entry, blessings.

I was able to snap these photos as a thunderstorm approached. As I posted this, it started to pour. No more sun to take photos, perfect timing.

Nice one mate!

Here you go! I kinda went crazy BUZZING around my Spring garden taking photos and then couldnt decide which one!! I love them all! I plant them all for my bees...and they love them too!! Note the gum leaf marker, fellow Aussie haha!!

Nice nice nice!
And nice touch for the gum leaf 😍

I can only recognise the last three: artichoke, elderflowers and sage. Although the first might be another kind of sage too.

Now question, I can’t remember it was you I asked this to before but do your elderflowers have a scent? In the UK they smell very nice and strong but they have no smell in Aussie!

Yes it was me! I thought about that the other day! My native elders smell strongly but not the others. I think its because they need a very cold winter?

Cold winter was what I mentioned yes :-D, TBC though...
When you say native, do you mean it's a different species?

Ha well that info had to come from somewhere!!! Yes, Sambucus australasica!!

I will grab a photo for you tomorrow.

You are always welcome Sir

I love your simple design for a bee hotel! I have lots of wood pieces that I can turn into bee hotels too. Thanks for sharing!
Wish this contest was a few months earlier - not much blooming here this time of year - the frost has taken them all! I did bring in a pot of flowers that I can get a picture of. Cool idea!

Like any project, it can be as simple or complicated as you want it to be 😊. Check what type of bees are in your area and choose the material accordingly.

Flowers in pot are fine 👍

What a sweet idea. I Love Bee hotels. They also look really cute. I have a friend who is a beekeeper and he gave me a hive last summer. I thought the bees were dead but turns out they were only hibernating. Imagine my joy when I noticed high activity again. Here's hoping we get some honey soon. It's so lovely to see so many bees around my garden. I will try to take a flower photo but I have just left home and won't be home until later tonight

Wow that's cool! These few recent years I noticed more bees in our garden thanks to all the flowers I added, especially when the Stevia is flowering. I'm planning to have a native bee (Tetragonula carbonaria) hive at some point but they are costly so it needs to wait a bit.

No worries for the photo, you have 6 more days :-D

Oh, I'll have to look into the native bees! We do have some up the road (a wild hive) in a redgum tree, they've been there for years.

Oh cool, I'll be bombing your post with ALL the flowers, lol. I have some beautiful irises about to flower - they are almost black - a really really dark purple. How good is spring!!!

PS do you know many other Australian gardeners on Steemit?

There is a technique where you add a pipe to the entrance of the natural hive that leads to your own hive. So that in order to enter their hive they have to go through yours first. Then some of them might decide to setup a new colony inside your hive and you would then separate it after a while.

@bearone has a garden and so is @bobaphet I believe

I used to man, unfortunately at the new place I moved to, there is no garden, and I truely miss it 😢
Peace.

Cool thanks. Really interesting information and I will follow the links that you sent me. It does seem that the Americans have the monopoly on gardening and homesteading comma maybe it is because we just don't have as many Australians on steemit. It is fairly harsh at this time of year when I want to share excitement over my garden and it would be good to have all the strains to do that with

We need to do more #promo-steem on Instagram etc... many people sharing their garden photos there.

We need to do more #promo-steem on Instagram etc... many people sharing their garden photos there.

Gosh I hardly ever go on Instagram anymore. I have tried to promote it but just get crickets so it kind of bores me to do that. I really think it is up to the owners of the platform to promote it as everybody else is doing everything they can to make it a good place to be

Posted using Partiko Android

Which platform?

  • Steemit.com is a beta product not initially designed to be the final interface to the Steem blockchain.
  • The Steem blockchain does not really have an owner, unless we consider the witnesses that are hosting it the owners.
  • Maybe dapps should contribute to the marketing by advertising for themselves and indirectly for Steem

However, coming from the dapps would sound like a scam to normal people: "Earning free $ from just posting and upvoting, no way, too good to be true". But coming from actual users (us Steemians with presence on other platforms) that others have been following for years it can raise more interest.

Here is an example of a native bee trap:

My boys and I love watching the bees in our yard and have considered making a bee hotel before!! I love this one you’ve made!! And here is my entry... snap dragons in my front yard.

Ooohh those have very nice colors!
Thanks for participating.
