FruitsAndVeggiesMonday ~ Wastefree Weekend Food Shopping

in #fruitsandveggiesmonday6 years ago (edited)

Who doesn't love shopping tours? I do! The more when I know I buy things we really need - like our every day food! The best place for me to buy fresh vegetables and fruits is on the Green Market. I find everything my hearts desires. All the goods are bursting with turbidity, crispyness, colors, energy. I try to carry shopping bags in my handbag every time so I am prepared to buy my stuff without using these thin plastic bags. This was my fruits and vegetables shopping for the weekend. I bought apples, two differently colored carrots, a tiny hokaido pumpkin, red radishes, zucchini, brussel sprouts, broccoli, a persimon and - later on in my wastefree shop just around the corner   - some popped buckwheat for my breakfast. Slowly I get used to this for me still strange taste. The popbuckwheats looked so interesting in their storage tank, I just needed to have them! That's shopping too: buying things just out of sheer curiosity ...

With this post I would like to contribute to @lenasveganliving's foodchallenge #fruitsandveggiesmonday. It's such a beautiful contest - always full of inspirations, interesting informations and colorful photography. If you would like to participate follow the link to learn about the rules: STEEMIT FRUITS AND VEGGIES MONDAY COMPETITION

Ooh what a beautiful piece of enticing art you have made with these veggies and fruits..! ^_^morelove&fruits.png

Thank you for this beautiful compliment! It means twice as much when an artist like you says that!

I would love to try purple carrots one day! They don't have it here where I live!

I didn't know they exist two years ago! 😆 They are a bit more aromatic, not very sweet though...

What a nice collection of fruits and veggies you have there!

Thank you for your kind words and and your constant support! 😊

You're welcome 😊

My pleasure! 😊

Wow, you have made a good selection, a broccoli cream soup would be good now, because with us it is very cold, or what do you prepare with the great delicacies?

I made baked vegetables with potatoes. It was very good. I think I will post it soon...

oh ja, das ist gut!

Oh, you always put out such a beautiful display! And healthy!!! Thank you!

Tip!

Thank you so much! 😘

... and thank you for the tip 😘

Hey what are those dark red things inbetween the carrots? I have never seen it before. Btw, thank you for all the support on my previous posts and comments. I will be following you and supporting from now on.

No, I thank you! You are very welcome! I am really looking forward to your future posts!
These are red radishes It's a lovely vegetable we often eat in salads o with bread or just for fun. It has a sort of sharpness you also find in mustard, horseradish and stuff. It comes from clucosinolate in the plant. That's good against bacterias. You see, it's not only pretty, delicious but healthy too ... 😋

Thank you for responding. I have never had radish yet but it sounds pretty awesome. It has the same color as beetroot. I love beetroot as it gives me plenty of good stuff and fills me with energy, but now I want to try radish. And I am adding you to @ginabot so I will stay up to date with all your posts and stuff. One love

This sort is dark red on the outside but with innocently white inside. And very crispy when fresh!

I swear on my life that I will find radish and eat it... haha

Using plastic bags is discouraged here too. They are now banning the use of plastic bags and encouraging people to use eco bags. What I like about where I live is that vegetables are cheap except those that are from the lowlands.

"Here" is somewhere in Africa? I guessed by the photography in your blog. I am going to Kenia for two weeks on Sunday. There are plastic bags banned too. I think, that's a good decision.

Here is Philippines :) particularly Baguio City. They had an ordinance before, some few years ago, banning the use of plastic bags but it was ignored. I hope it works this time.

Just curious - is your Green Market organic, or locally grown produce? We have a fruit and veg market once a week in the village, but it's all imported produce, the only thing grown in Ireland there are the spuds!

This market takes place three times a week and it's mostly locally grown produce and a little bit organic too. Most of them also sell imported products too depending on the time of the year. I try to limit my consumption of imported products, especially when they grow over here as well - just at another time of the year. Things like strawberries, grapes, asparagus and so on. Of cours I will never be able to buy locally grown organic franconian bananas, pineapples or oranges ... 😜 But I want them every now and then.

Ah, that sounds pretty good! I'm able to order organic veg from a place that delivers from across the country, but even then it's mostly imported. We tried growing things ourselves but Ireland is ever so wet and cold and lacking in sunlight (and we get mighty storms that blow your polytunnels up trees...) Have you seen @amy-goodrich's posts? In Cambodia she's able to grow all kinds of things... bananas, pineapples, mangos... so jealous!

Yes, I am sooo jealous! 😤

One of my favorite things to do while we lived in Guatemala was going to the market, They were beautiful and amazing and affordable and you could find almost any fruit or vegetable. I would always buy items each week out of curiosity and then figure out something to do with them. It was a wonderful learning experience, Your haul this week is lovely. I am doing my best to eat healthy but there are those days :( Our Market here starts in May and is on 1/2 day on Saturday. Hopefully this year I will be buying less cause I am growing it myself.
