Caterpillars: Pale Tussock
The start of another, parallel series on caterpillars: the pale tussock (Calliteara pudibunda), meriansborstel in Dutch. The "merian" in the Dutch name refers to Maria Sibylla Merian, a 17th-century butterfly and insect painter.
This species is found in Europe and Anatolia and flies from April to June, and has one generation per year.
The moth is gray and has a nice shape and pattern (I have no photos of that one, sorry), but it is nowhere near as spectacular as its caterpillar:

The books say there is also a brown version of this caterpillar, but I haven't seen that one yet.

Oh, this is a cute furry one lol Sad to hear that a dull moss comes out of it but it's like that isn't it? Dull caterpillar nice butterfly and vice versa? :)
There are exceptions, also among moths and butterflies 8-).
we called that in the Philippines, "simutsang" LOL
