Leading by Example: Giving in December!

I have always believed that the phrase “lead by example” is a true mantra that allows for communities to form and support each other to achieve goals and objectives collectively instead of focusing on the individual. As I learned more about the #STEEM ecosystem, I thought this would be difficult given the foundation of rewarding content here. In addition, considering the weight-based distribution of the rewards pool, the distribution of rewards has been not as originally thought it would be when the white paper was originally envisioned. While many changes have occurred throughout the many Hard Forks experienced here, the community has now started to come up with solutions to really move towards more distribution and rewards for many.

Many have started to leverage the #STEEM price to accumulate as much as they can. While this is usual in these scenarios, what has been interesting is to see how many Dolphins are being made on a daily basis. This has come to also benefit the growing middle class as they are achieving more influence than they have had in the past. They have also started to spread out the upvotes they are providing which is also helping for a better distribution of the rewards pool. This is a great trend and as I started to see it, I wanted to help and also become part of it given that it will ultimately create value and benefit the protocol in the long run as more Minnows and Dolphins are created and many remain actively engaged in the ecosystem.

One of my first tries at this was when the @pifc community leader reached out and asked for support to ensure the viability of the project. I had first heard of the project from fellow Steemian @roleerob which I engage often with here in the ecosystem. The Pay it Forward concept has always been one that has interested me in my life as it has the fundamental concept to help those in need without expecting anything in return. When I do these types of supports I feel great about helping given that it gives me the perspective to appreciate what I have to offer. I was more than happy to delegate to the project and I now look forward to participating in supporting their community:

Next, I also ran into the @steemonboarding project that has been formed and is being built to support new users as they onboard into the ecosystem. I have been trying to provide visibility to these efforts as I have shared their vision in the need to support and educate new users in order to motivate them to remain active and engage with the community despite the challenges they may face early on. They launched a @fundition campaign to help build the infrastructure necessary to ensure its sustainability as not only having a good base of Steem Power is enough to run great projects in the long term. Seeing that their founders @anomadsoul and @coruscate put about 10,000 Steem Power to get it started, I felt that the project was aligned with my thoughts of how to build value for the ecosystem over time so I also made my first backing ever on the blockchain:

As we came closer to the Holiday season, I saw the benefit of getting more rewarded on a daily basis. I had started to Power Up 100% all my posts but given the amount engagement I have purposely done over this time, I have been supported with a great amount of liquid STEEM over the last couple of weeks. Therefore, I thought it would be a great idea to give back to the community and sought to reward those that are great examples of Steemians looking to improve not only their experience and growth but also the value of the ecosystem. One of the projects I have slowly learned about here has been the @steembasicincome project. As time has passed, I have been impressed on how this project has matured to a large community that is fundamentally based on giving and engaging actively in the ecosystem. They have recently successfully automated their infrastructure which provides a great opportunity for the project to grow and benefit more around the platform. Therefore, I decided to reward a couple of participants some SBIs from great communities that have weekly leagues and contests:

@meno’s Open Mic

@paulag’s Redfish Power Up League

@steemcommunity’s Minnow Power Up League

@abh12345’s Curation and Engagement League

I mainly focused on those starting in these communities as an effort to motivate continued engagement and growth. These engagement and curation leagues have been a personally favorite to follow as I have seen a clear correlation for me between the levels of engagement and account growth even without considering the purchase Steem Power I have made over the year. I continue to track my progress here as I believe they are valuable not only our metrics but are also creating value for the ecosystem in general.

I still have felt that I can do more and while I hope to focus a part of my efforts in 2019 to continue giving to the community, I wanted to do one more thing to give back this year. As part of my participation in the #minnowuprising initiative earlier this year, I ran into @nonsowrites whom I feel is a great content creator that has continued to actively engage and has built great momentum and following. He recently jumped onto the @nathanmars team and started to post Dtube videos as a complement to his written posts which are also engaging. He has reached his goals of being a Minnow but has said that he wants more to achieve the same. Thus, he has an initiative to delegate all of his Steem Power (100 SP to 5 users) in an effort to support others. This is yet another example of Steemians stepping up and leading the community forward to grow and create value. Therefore, I have decided to delegate 500 Steem Power to @nonsowrites for the month of January to support his initiative and that of those he supports as well!

I hope that these efforts of sharing our accomplishments with the community can motivate and engage many to do the same if they can and motivate those to continue engaging throughout the ecosystem. By doing so, we are creating a sustainable ecosystem where we improve the distribution of the stakes that govern the protocol. As we see the community continue to work together past the challenges we experience as an ecosystem, I feel that the growth we will experience will be do to those efforts by its leaders and communities to focus on those adding value.
