I said, "I get where you are coming from."
I got this response, "Do you want to know what country I am from?"
This English idiom is a statement not a question. It is similar to "I understand you" or "I know where you are coming from." "I get where you are coming from" has nothing to do with your location or hometown. It has everything to do with understanding another person's point of view.
Oh, the lemmings… they don’t know where they came from or where they are going. Therefore they have no understanding. This is tragedy of many human beings.
Once more if you read these words:
I know where you are coming from.
I get where you are coming from.
I see where you are coming from.
It's not about where you live or your hometown. It just means that I understand you.
Do you get where I'm coming from?
Hoist your sail when winds are fair.
Patrick mans the wheel.
SpongeBob swabs the deck.
Jughead scuttles the jib.
Take away three misunderstandings
Confucius say. 오해 (誤解) - 3 = 이해 (理解)
Perception left in isles of deception.

Engaging post @mineopoly, and I really like how it's about communication - I wasn't sure and geography did come to mind when I saw the title. Not quite sure I get the poem, though I read it twice and I do like its dynamics and characters :D ....perhaps the pirate is just able to literally see again out of the darkness!? lol....doesn't matter anyway, just seems to me as if you might have stashed something away within the poem, that's all!

Thanks for your honesty and comfort @barge. You are always welcome aboard. The poem is esoteric to those like you who have been on a boat and to those who watch too much SpongeBob. Also the 1950s comic strip "Jughead" who is giving a "jib" or chugging a "jug".
The general post itself was intended as an ESL lesson instructing that "comes from" doesn't always mean physical location but can be a figure of speech "idiom".
It all started with misunderstanding. When I dig deeper I find life lessons here. First in Chinese or languages that use Chinese numbers:
"5 Hay" sounds like misunderstanding.
If you take away 3 of those you get "2 Hay" which is understanding. The Chinese word for understanding sounds like "2 Hay."
The rest of the poem talks about life direction. We are so confident we know where we are going so that when we are warned of danger we do not turn away but continue in our path.
Finally we come face to face with our monster. In the cartoon this giant Krabby patty monster is nothing but a hallucination that takes over the subconscious. The captain is defeated.
I don't think my explanation will help much but may confuse you more. Thanks for trying to understand.
It is basically the light house story. We say "full steem ahead" but we are all proud. When we meet our limits we keep pressing on. It is the danger of human beings who do not know where we came from or where we are going. The monster in the poem is the "supernatural" that we do not understand. The "universe" that directs us but in our pride we do not change course.

What a response! I guess I am a boat, though I'm not a sailor :D ... I know Jughead from the Archie comics that were available in India in the 80s, but SB and co. only heard of at best.

...and so it is for me ... I re-read the poem with greater understanding and its dual nature comes more into focus. Instructing/guiding at not just the ESL level!
...the dual appearance of the 'monster'.....do we fear the universe because we don't believe it, or don't believe we deserve an understanding of what we are receiving...and certainly, as you say, pride!

Thanks @debralee. I have been outside all day with my kids and now I'm totally exhausted. I have been tinkering with my blog for months and I finally think this is the style that is most suitable for me.
Each day I write a simple situation in plain English and then write a poem at the bottom that only a native speaker can catch. I will post once a day for a while and may increase later.

I totally get where you are coming from. I live in a one bedroom w my wife and 2 kids so it's good to hear you have your own room. Welcome @zoh. I put a short verse at the bottom bc if I don't have anything good today then at least I have a good book to reference.

Thank you @sultnpapper you answered today's bonus question. I really can't understand spam coming from such a well dressed smiling man. I will come back to his comment later. I'm dedicating tomorrow's post to tasty spam. Some beautiful people supported this post. This @exxodus dude did not upvote even one cent. So what happens next. I will give him a request to make a nice comment and visit his blog. If it is a bunch of resteems then he is getting a warning. If he dosen't send something besides spam then I guess I have to flag him and my voting power is dragging for some reason.
I like to write about Spongebob in my poems every once and a while just to see if anyone is paying attention.
REP scores don't have near the meaning that it might have in the past, I have seen people on their initial introduction post surpass my REP with a one paragraph intro and a sexy picture. When you check back on them a month later the still haven't made a post, maybe a few resteems. I saw one girl who never even bothered to collect he $38 rewards from her intro as her wallet showed nothing but the initial starting delegation you get when you sign up. It was really funny watching that chic, she kept re-posting her intro like 4 or 5 times until it finally caught a wave of votes, all of that was in a matter of a few hours.

The @exxodus fella has a post right now thanking his "1,000" followers and trying to tell them how to succeed on here and how he has done what he's accomplished, he didn't mention to them how he spams people left and right , trying to make people believe he is actually reading and making a legit comment. Generic BS is just that BS, if you can't point to one thing that is even remotely connected to the post I consider it spam, unless the comment is like the 3rd or 4th in the conversation between the two people and it is wrapping up the discussion.
