Wet Wednesday at Lake Superior

in #wetwednesday6 years ago (edited)

@bashadow created a new tag for Wednesdays. #wetwednesday is for anything water related!

My #wetwednesday photos are from one of the many trips that I've made to my very favorite lake. Lake Superior. These were taken up around the Apostle Islands and Bayfield. When I was able, this was one of my favorite places to go kayaking.

These days I'm happy to buy a ticket to ride on the tour boat, and remember all the places that I have paddled to in the past, like Raspberry Island Lighthouse.

And one of the pluses to being on the tour boat is that I can take a real camera without having to worry about it getting wet! Back when I was kayaking my only option was to take along those little disposable waterproof cameras and bungee them to the deck of my boat! I don't have the finest photos from those trips, but I do have some fine memories!

Beautiful pictures....!!!

Thank you and thanks for leaving a comment here! good luck to you.

Wow ! Those are some beautiful places and beautiful photos of those places.

Love the bird sculpture on top of the post.

Thank goodness for great memories. Glad you still have a way to enjoy those areas.

In the winter the 'caves' along the shore become incredible ice sculptures. I won't be going out on the ice to see them, but people that do say they're incredible and the photos I've seen are amazing.

Thanks for using eSteem!

It is nice to leave the driving to someone else every now and then, just so you can take some real nice pictures, or at least push the clicker and hope and pray like I do for a nice picture. Your look great, I love that arch one.

Thanks for the tag! I think it is a fun one! Push and hope! That's how I take most of mine! Or at least, push, look, adjust, repeat, repeat, repeat....

I remember hearing about the Apostle Islands when we lived in Minnesota but never visited them. Looks gorgeous but what island with a lighthouse doesn't? haha I like the bird sculpture too.

The Islands are incredible. There are several lighthouses on the various islands. I think that sculpture was on the city dock in Bayfield. It is a beautiful part of the world.

I love Lake Superior, I spent some time there this summer. These are great shots, I really like the one with the caves or rock arches. resteemed :)

That is Devils Island. It is the furthest one out from the Mainland. The water gets pretty wild out there. Those caves become incredible ice sculptures in the winter time. Not that I've been out there, I've just seen pictures. Thanks for the resteem!

Wow these pictures are beautiful :) ps these type of trips bring inner peace and comfort to our life :) Keep us updated with your next trips

I am unable to do much traveling these days because of health reasons. But I have lots of great photos and lots of great memories to share!

That's sad to hear, stay healthy but yeah do upload the photos and memories you already have with you, that will be brilliant for the platform

Fabulous images @melinda010100 The Apostle Islands look very picturesque indeed. (U & R)

Thanks, luv! It is a wonderful part of the world.

I didn't know you used to be a kayaker @melinda010100.

I love this "from the sea" shots. 😊

It was my happy place to be. I got to take some incredible paddling trips over the years and it was a sad day when I had to sell my boats. I still have one hanging in the rafters of the garage that I keep thinking someday when my grandkids get old enough they would want to use it. But right now it's just gathering dust.

Aw. That's a shame @melinda010100. We have three boats hanging in our garage and one out in the yard.

John is a keen kayaker. 😁

Oh, we would get along well! One of my earliest kayaking buddies moved up north on to the shores of Lake Superior and started a guide business almost 30 years ago. I would often get phone calls from him saying hey I don't have any trips booked for next week do you want to go... and he and I would take off and go and explore and camp and just have the greatest Adventures! He was down last winter and spent a few days here with me and we were reminiscing about the time we used our paddles and tied a tarp between them and sailed across one of the big bays in Lake Superior. oh my goodness we were flying! So many good memories. And that lighthouse in my photo? There is a big dock out front that stands quite high above the water and we got into our boats and launched our fully loaded kayaks off the end of the dock and landed in the water with a splat! That caught a lot of attention too! Fun stuff!

Oh my. You are right. You and John would get on like a house on fire.

He still does a 10 day trip in the Scottish Islands every year with one of his friends.

At home it's mostly kayak surfing as the sea paddling is a bit tame. Although he does paddle along the coast from time to time.

I bought him a kayak sail a couple of Christmases ago but, sadly, he wasn't able to use it on his trip this year. It was either way too windy or none at all apparently.

Like you they just take off and camp on the beaches or stay in local bothies, which I wrote about some time ago.

You must really miss it but it's good that you took the chance when you had it. 😢

I would love to hear John's tales! My kayaking friends have offered to take me out in a tandem, but I have refused. It would defeat the fealing of independence that I loved about kayaking. I don't have any feeling in my left hand and I even experimented with strapping it to the paddle to see if I could do it all with my right hand but I ended up going in circles and I decided that wasn't the answer! So it's okay just to have all the great memories.
