SteemitBoard Carnival Challenge- Mardi Gras
@steemitboard is hosting a Mardi Gras contest this week. You can find the rules here. Carnival Contest
Carnival was over when we visited New Orleans a few years ago but the Mardi Gras Museum had costumes and wonderful displays that show the festivities from years prior.
There were plenty of signs of the recent celebration and there were Mardi Gras beads hanging everywhere,
There were even beads in the cemetery.
Houses and shop windows were still decorated giving me a feeling of how festive it must have been.
Years ago I was in Portugal during Carnival and saw big celebrations in Porto and local celebrations in the smaller towns.
But alas, there are no Carnival celebrations back home in Wisconsin, so I have had to create my own traditions and each year I make a King Cake. With a recipe from King Arthur flour King Cake Recipe
Happy Carnival!

I'd look fab in that first outfit 😂
Oh, Michael! @molometer I know I would pay good money to see that! :) Mardi Gras was fun when I went, but, they OMG. the first time I went, I almost died of embarrassment.
Yes you would! I think I want the red one that's back in the corner in the second photo. It's so much more understated.😜
Congratulations @melinda010100! You received a personal award!

Thank you @esteemapp!
A couple of times on business trips to conferences scheduled at that time (surely pure coincidence ... 😉), I have been to New Orleans during the Mardi Gras. Personally, I like your approach better ...
... and wishing I could take a virtual bite of your King Cake. Looks delicious @melinda010100!! 😊 👍
I have no problem with missing Mardi Gras! I'm not into the whole alcohol thing and it appears to me that is the main focus. Do you want coffee with your king cake?
Yes well @melinda010100 ...
... actually the alcohol just loosens the inhibitions for all the rest of it .... Not of interest to me. A man happily married for 43 years and counting ... 😊
Yes, please coffee with it sounds wonderful. The way I drink it, if I am being "bad" is a little coffee with my cream and sugar ... 😏😉

These photos are beautiful, it is always wonderful to see your post. This king cake looks delicious
It is a sweet yeast bread, but is very traditional for Carnival here. Is there a carnival celebration on your Island?
If today there was a parade with some floats, I could not go because I do not feel well
I hope you are feeling better now!
If I'm better, I was resting. And how are you? When did the kids visit you?
My grandson just left. He is going tomorrow to take his test for his driver's license and he needed to do a few more practice hours in the dark to have all his practice hours completed before he takes the test. So he drove out here to see me. He has grown up to be such a fun kid!
My Chicago kids will be here in another week. They are coming for the weekend and bringing their cat to stay with me for two weeks while they go on vacation to Mexico. It will be fun to have him here!
It must be great to learn to drive. I'm sure it would be great for you to have that kitten at home, one of the places that I would love to visit Mexico.
Learning to drive is expected and pretty essential here. Unless you live in one of the big cities there is no public transportation to speak of so the only way to get around this to own a car and drive yourself.
Their cat has stayed with me before and I really enjoyed having him. They are traveling to Tulum, Mexico and are planning to sit on the beach for 2 weeks.
I have been in some of the border towns and vacationed with the kids in Puerto Vallarta, but have not traveled around much in Mexico.
What a beautiful costumes Melinda, wow! It must of been quite an experience to see them up close. Great photo collection and even King Arthur cake. Amazing! The TV show Adventures of Merlin is one of my all times favorites 😊
The cake is pretty good, and a lovely part of the New Orleans Mardi Gras tradition. I can't even imagine all the time that went into creating those costumes. They must work on them all year long.
Happy Carnival!!! There is always so much activity, but, not as much as this time of year!
Your pictures are spectacular and I have seen some pretty bizarre looking people there.

It is is a wild party, even without Carnival!
That is true! I lived in New Orleans for a few months and hello! It was an everyday affair.
I would be dead by now if I lived there. :)
But it is a good place to eat! 😃
Oh my gosh, yes! A few years back one of my neighbors was from New Orleans had a promotion party. I can tell you that it was the biggest Cajun party I've ever seen! Their uncle came from the swamp somewhere around there came and brought this big Black Cauldron and cooked all night. Right there in Civilization, New Orleans came to Texas.
That would be fun! My Cajun experiences have all been in restaurants! Nothing as authentic as what are you experienced!
It really was! We had jambalaya made the way they do with the sausage and shrimp and everything else in it. And the party lasted for two days. LOL
I love the way they party. As long as my house was across the street and I could go home!
🎁 Hi @melinda010100! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @dswigle!
@dswigle wrote lately about: Letting The Sun Shine Feel free to follow @dswigle if you like it :)
Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)
Howdy tonight Melinda! wow those are some amazing outfits those people wore! It must take a heck of a lot of time to design and make those things!
They must be really heavy too. It must take a lot of strength to wear something like that.
yeah I'd like to lift one and see, it's totally amazing that they can wear something that covers so much area! lol.
Right? I hope they didn't have to walk very far when they were wearing that!
My grandson passed his driver's test on the first go! He texted me on his way out of the parking lot oh, so very very proud of himself.
Oh that's great news, now he doesn't have to worry about taking it again, well done!
The first thing he did was drive to a girl's house! He was telling me about her last night. And he is quite excited to go looking for a job so that he has gas money.
haha! That's great..does he have a car of his own?
He does. A Subaru Forester, I think it is. My son in law is a car guy and is able to do all the necessary mechanic work to keep the old junkers in good repair. My grandson spent very little on the car and they have spent the past year getting it so that it would be trustworthy and safe. He is very proud of it.
