One of the birds that I look forward to seeing most each spring is the Indigo Bunting.

image

They leave during the late summer and travel as far south as South America and they migrate at night, using the stars for guidance.

Indigo Buntings are common in the eastern United States during the summer and are found in weedy fields and shrubby areas near trees, where they forage for seeds and insects. They can often be attracted to backyards by feeding nyger thistle seed.

Years ago I was in the market to buy a house and I had narrowed it down to just a couple places that would work well for my family. I ended up making my decision when I saw an Indigo Bunting in the tree and decided that was the house I wanted to live in!

Oh, my goodness! Talk about an amazing colored bird!!! I don't believe we have any of those around here, I am pretty sure I would have noticed!

Great job capturing the flag here!

I'm pretty sure you do have them, they are pretty common. Do you have a thistle feeder out?

I do! And I will have to check more carefully although they are pretty vibrant!

OK... speaking of too much going on, I have to leave for work, so have a great night. That means posting #MarketFriday late on dinner break or tomorrow. Have a great night, my dear!

tschuss!!

What kind of work do you do? What is your sleep schedule when you work these awful hours?

Wuaoo Meli, what beautiful birds,

Aren't they cute? I hope I can get some new pictures when they return this spring.

What lovely little birds :)

They are, aren't they?

Pretty! They're pretty vibrant, too! They'll pobably be working their way through here in a few weeks.

We do get to enjoy them when they are in their breeding plumage. I guess during the winter they turn quite brown with just a few blue hints in their tail feathers.

..these birds are very cute

They are one of my favorites!

You're so lucky! I've never seen one but always wanted to!

The painted bunting is the one I have always wanted to see! They have a much more limited range than these guys, though

We're supposed to have them here, but I've never seen one. I'm on the lookout just in case.

Probably because your goats eat all the thistles! 😃 Put out a Nyger Thistle feeder and I bet they will come!

I had one out for a long time to attract the goldfinches. Never saw a bunting. Maybe they like higher elevations? We're only about 50 feet above sea level.

It doesn't appear that they go very far west.

But really, 50 feet? I'm at 850 feet here on the prairie.

I'm only 40 miles from the coast. We're bottom feeders here! Haha!

That is darn close to sea level!

Love the photo! :)

Thsnks so much!

Love love their blue color... I am a fan of the color scheme blue and white. Beautiful birds!

It is really beautiful to see a flock of them together.
