Steemdollar.com 💵 Calculating the worth of a single Upvote - What is your Upvote worth?

in #steem8 years ago (edited)

A simple and minimalistic site that shows how much a Upvote is worth! Yes, this does not yet include the difficult "unknown magic" happening behind the screens when more users, with diffrent levels of steem power are added to the mix when voting on your story or comment.

Never the less Its a handy way to see what any account is potentially worth when it single handed Upvotes your story or comment.

You can check any account by going to the Upvote Worth Calculator by submitting a username, directly after the site will retrieve the data and display the Potential Upvote Worth of the account.

Some steemians that I have already hot-linked for you:

Dan, Ned, Xeroc, Heiditravels & Guerrint

A special thanks to:

Thanks to @fabien for creating the awesome Steem api that I'm using to get the data from.

Feedback:

Tho I made this calculation many times, I do need your help to get it perfect and spot on. So If I don't seem to be correct please let me know.

It seems like there is a mistake somewhere in the calculation, I'm curently on this! I hope to have a solution ASAP. Sorry al for the inconvenience. Thanks for this @dantheman, @pharesim and others that had very different values.

Check your Upvote Worth now!

And how much are you worth?

It does not appear to calculate the number accurately for me. It says my votes is worth $75, but I bet this post will have more.

I was correct, my single upvote is worth $475. Check your numbers.

Thanks Dantheman, I appreciate you taking the time and check and coming back with the right number! This is the message definitely needed, I try to rectify my mistake and will go on this right away. Hope that I can fix this today.

Hi @mauricemikkers ! Our upvote also appears to be more valuable depending on WHO we are up voting. When I upvoted your post, it barely moved, but when I upvoted @dantheman it jumped up a few dollars. Great job, though!

@jaysanz I know I'm 2 whole years late to this convo (lol) but why is it worth different amounts based on who you're upvoting?

Excellent question! @mauricemikkers?@dantheman? Any answers, Anyone??

haha @oleblueeye I still don't know!

Heh. Well, if either of us ever find out, we'll let the other know! 😉

Thanks for the confidence good sir!

I have about 3 cents if I'm at 100% :(

We need a reverse calculator to see how much Steem Power we would need for like $1.00 worth of an upvote :D

Well at least you took the time to let him know. By the way, I tried my voting power and it gave me .02$ on a 100% voting power which is accurate, he might need some tweaking to adjust to bigger holders but I think its not bad so far.

wtf. thats a lot of money.

hi @dantheman, I have a question hope you can answer me. What if I will invest $1,000 power up how much would be the equivalent steem power? How much is the equivalent steem power for every 1$? Thanks

This is a joke right?

Great worth mate. i think about 90% members worth rate is less than $1, so enjoy and happy.

...my single upvote is worth $475...
This level of "god"? :)

haha i was thinking the exact same thing! haha

wow! so that means my vote of 0.007$ is actually worth 0.047$?

Here i have posted today the story about how Rewards percentage increase in Voting and how you can increase your payout and STEEM power by voting.
https://steemit.com/steemit/@shaheer001/hello-steemit-fellows-alert-alert-rewards-percentage-increase-in-voting-what-is-curation-rewards-must-read-this-topic-to-save

I votet dantheman "UP" and his 506$ fell down to 500$! Why is that Happening???

I'm getting inaccurate stats too.

dan is apparently the man.

last year your vote was worth 475$.... how much is it now?

Wow I just started last night. Any tutorial or quick guide how I can get my steem and power up? I love this site already and was already a believer in Steem.

how much is that upvote worth now

It seems that I would be getting about 20cents at 100% power... Seems right.

Hello @nenad-ristic Favor. Can you checkout my proposal and maybe you can be the Escrow person. Hold the funds until I meet my part of this deal. This would be a great first on STEEMIT. Read my blog to see what I mean
Thanks
@streetstyle

Sure, although you will have to explain to me how the interface for escrow works. (I have not used eBay in a while) I am flattered that you consider me so flattered by the Steem community.

Feel free to hit me up on slack to discuss this. (I go by nenad there)

@nenad-ristic Awesome. This really isn't about Ebay, or steemmarket(sharetribe) but rather about STEEMIT as a community. We are already trusting people with our time and upvotes, so why not with small value physical goods that are prohibitively expensive to sell online due to Credit Trans. Fees (plus fees from the likes of Ebay). Selling something that costs $1 for $1.50 becomes expensive in terms of percentages. We don't think of .50cents as much, but in places like the Phillipines or Africa, heck even in Mexico, they go along way. Anyhow, cool. I will check out slack and hit you up. Thanks for listening.

@streetstyle

Hey @nenad-ristic I downloaded Slack app but not sure how to work. Any how real quick. If I have a sticker that I want to sell for .99 cents (US Dollars), on Ebay I would have to tack on 50% at least to offset the cost of Paypal/Ebay. On Bitcointalk.org, user's there conducted bitcoin sales with a 3rd (neutral) party being the escrow (you). All you do is hold the .99 cents that buyer sends to you. I see it in your wallet, I send stickers to buyer, buyers receives and you give me .99 cents. Simple. I would like for it to stay within STEEMIT.COM not some other website. Thanks and let me know

@streetstyle

Sure, just let me know. See if you can get on the Steem Slack, I think the instructions are somewhere on Steem.

Ok @nenad-ristic I will do so in a few. I will be taking a few days off to hang with the kids. Thanks again, and we'll talk soon.

@streetstyle

Very cool! Testing it now =D

Let me know if its correct still curious of I did all calculations right.

It's actually perfectly correct, down to a crazy number of decimals. What's interesting is that it only shows what your vote is currently worth right now, based on your voting power. It'd be cool to see what a vote would be worth closer to 100% voting power. Great job, nevertheless!

It was already in the script but I felt like it was too much data. Etherway check again and you will see what you are at 100%

great post

The calculation is wrong. My 100% upvote is worth $0.01 (woohoow!) but the website says it's worth $ 0.0006 so..

One quick thing I noticed: You have to actually delete the text "Steem Name" in the search box. Would be easier if it was just background text that went away when you clicked on the box.

Still love it though! Very cool. Seems like the numbers are a bit off, but I'm sure you'll get to fixing those.

Thank you SO much! I was always curious as to how it was weighted, or if there was a way to check how much a person's vote is potentially/actually worth. I also truly appreciate your upvote on a post of mine. That fraction of a dollar means more to me than you even realize!

I've been here less than 4 days and I've fallen in love with #steemit! :)
I'm approaching the worth of a dogecoin! :)

Can't wait until I'm worth something more, I feel I have a lot of intellectual/philosophical/applicable knowledge to present to this wonderful community! Best wishes to you!

Hi @mauricemikkers,

This tool is sooo good!

Im not sure if you will see this but. you should create a calculator that tells us if we invest X dollars whta voting power will I have.

This would help calculate how much $ one would have to invest in order to have X voting power.

Is it actually possible to calculate this? I don't intend to be a critic, because I do actually think this is a really cool idea, but it seems like this is an impossible number to calculate based on how the site works.

My understanding of the payout system is that there is a set amount of Steem to be distributed (we'll call it the 'payout pool'), and the system decides how to divide up the pool based on the votes/weights across all the posts. Based on this, is there even such thing as a set 'upvote worth', since it depends on how all the other votes are distributed across the active posts?

To give an extreme example, let's assume there was $50,000 in the payout pool and nobody on the entire site voted for any content except for one user with 10 SP voting on one post. (Yes, obviously this is an extreme example.) In this case though, the one user's upvote would award all $50,000 to that one post.

I am not 100% sure that my understanding is correct here. If anyone has a better understanding of how it works - to either confirm what I am saying, or show how it is totally wrong - I would appreciate it :)

Yes, you are correct. I tested it with the votes of 10 of my friends and it seemed to be correct. But we are between 500 and 15.000 SP. Unfortunately I did some miscalculations that I will try to solve. I hope that I'm able to get it right.
