Own life over career :) How I spend Fridays doing productive stuff I like instead of sitting in the office..
First of all - I really enjoy my work. But 5 days out of 7 is way too much. That's why I've chosen to work only 4 days. It means my weekend starts on Thursday around 4pm which is a damn long weekend! TBH making this decision wasn't as easy as I thought. All those "money thoughts" are hard to deny. Early retirement, investing etc etc...I've been thinking about it a lot but decided its not the way to go for me. I'll rather find a balance between enjoyable work and enough private time rather than hoping to be happy in the future. Also, it's not that I lie on the beach on the weekends..I'm working on my own projects and constantly learning, I'm just not paid for it :)
What d you think? Have I made a right decision?

Well I can as I don't have a family :D But i guess I wont be living like this forever :D Altho I find it funny that whole world needs 40hours/week to finish their work...it feels it's kinda imposed on us..
Family needs other things exceptions money, too but we seem to general my put our priority on money. Of course it's imposed on us. Still I am all for finding balance in the direction you are going right now.

Since steem happened for me, I too have taken Friday’s to kinda work and do stuff for me.
Slack lining looks cool and those handstands are something I wish I could do.

Well you're self-employed uncle sooo you can technically take as many off days as possible haha :D I know it's not true at all but that's what we employed people always think haha :D
That is one of the benefits for sure. I just have had to learn to get over the guilt of shirking my duties. Beer and sun helps.

Funny thing about your hanging laundry to dry - we don't have a washer/dryer in our place (septic can't handle it) so once a week it's off to the laundromat, and with 5 people in the house, it's never a small amount. When we get home, we dump it all on our (mine & hubby's) bed to sort & fold, which is typically my job. I usually have some kind of DTube/YouTube informational talk running on my computer while I do it too.
Hubby used to do the 4 day, 10 hour shifts and while it was awesome having the extra day to do productive (aka, non paid) things, his particular job (cable tech) doesn't punch a clock, so his 10 hour shifts were usually more like 12 to 14, and he ended up being too exhausted on his first day off to do anything. I think for you, it will be a good balance.

woow this is such a cool comment @traciyork :))) it's crazy I don't get this why people work over their paid hours...I mean..what would happen if you just don't finish the tasks? 14hour days sound craaaazy...did he at least like the job? than it would at least make a bit of sense to me :)
Oh and yeah, watching edu vids while doing chores is the only way how I can do them :D

Luckily, hubby gets paid an hourly wage, so when he works over he gets paid extra. And since his job requires him to go into people's homes & businesses to install/fix their cable, he can't easily quit for the day when the clock strikes 4 - I get the feeling his customers would tackle him if he tried to walk out the door! 😂
However, he really enjoys what he does, and his customers are usually awesome, but long days like that make for a very tired boy - especially since he's getting old (like me). Hopefully some day soon, I'll become a crypto bazillionaire so he can retire and we can watch videos and do chores together! 😊

I think if you can afford to live off of what you make in 4 days than go for it . Keep in mind tho .... now is when your expenses are lower....mans you have a better chance of saving some money to make investments and savings . Once a family comes along the expenses get steeper and it gets a lot more difficult to put money away for a rainy day .

You won’t know unless you try it ... if you see it’s financially taking a toll .... then go back to adding the day ..... the worst thing I think in life is regret ... you don’t want to live your life always wondering .... what if .... take the chance ... when you do .... you will find out if it was a mistake ..... or of it was worth it ..... but at least you will know .
