~ 121 ~ Walk With Me Down the Old Wooden River Road

in #walkwithme6 years ago (edited)

Since I Don't Have A Vehicle My Walks Are Usually Close To Home

Actually, you guys don't know this but we haven't had a family vehicle for over a year now, talk about cabin fever. Brendan luckily has a work van but it only seats two, we've had to borrow our neighbour's car more than a couple times over the year to do things that took more than 2 of us.

We're going to be fixing up our truck really soon and putting it on the road (now that the bankruptcy is over) and I'm looking so forward to our family drives again. We used to always be out exploring somewhere together. I love driving and going for drives so much...all this time without a vehicle sure has made me appreciate what we used to take for granted.

So today was a special treat when my friend Carol drove over, picked me up and took me out to Wooden River Road. It's a beautiful old road from the settler days surrounded by tall trees, mossy rocks, and of course follows a big lazy River from where it gets its name.

Diego's butt...I deleted more than a few of these shots today he wasn't being photogenic like my #chickenbitchez nice hennies usually are.

Wingboots this morning.

Some more Diego butt, that'll be the last I promise, and I'll include this comment: I never believed it was possible for a dog to pee so much, he must have marked hundreds of bushes! Bwa hahahhaa doggy emails going out like hotcakes.

A short video of the sound of the river flowing through the forest. Carol and Diego starred in my feature film as well today :)

See the water sparkling through the trees?

The Old Road

It's so great for working muscles that don't usually get worked by walking on flat surfaces, I made the most out of every up and down, as well as dodging huge puddles, and sometimes jumping on rocks to get through them.

Some Wildlife

A squirrel telling us off very loudly.

And way up at the top of the tallest tree, a beautiful hawk. (I could only manage to get a photo of its ass too before it flew away! What is with this day?)

IMG_6484.jpg

Let's see some photogenic chickens to help sooth the burn...

Buddy & Mr. Pendock

IMG_6457.JPG

Yes that was 4 chickens all squeezed into one nesting box, fighting over who will lay the egg there in the favourite box...and it doesn't get much better, here's next door...

IMG_6458.JPG

3 chickens squeezing into that one. And you think it would be because of lack of space, but it isn't, there are 4 empty nesting boxes available.

Back to the water for one final goodbye...

I hope you enjoyed this #WalkWithMe. Here are some recent walks with Steemians who got out there in the world, and took us with them.

Bella Lyndsay, you makea the nice pictures.

So you wanna newa car eh?

Lucky fora you youra friend Don Poltryoni hasa car business.

Just letta me know whata you want and my associates willa steal acquire it for you pronto, ok?

No one expecta Chicketta car thief salesman but we havea many talents, capishe..........

This isa one of my girls, she bringa me Maserati.

Don Poltryoni - Your friendly neighbourhood Crime Lord.

HAHAHAA!!! Omg I love it so much xoxoxox Is she on her way then? This is terrific news Mr. Poltryoni!! Something tells me though that I OWE you now...and that's not good is it?

I may comea to you one day forra the favour, whena that day comes I know you will helpa the Don.

Looks very peaceful today.

And not so cold!

We're definitely out of the woods as far as cold weather is concerned, it was a scorching + 15! hahaha, how about you guys, probably getting some 20 degree weather soon, I remember those days in April in Edmonton, there can be some surprising temps!

It was 20 degrees yesterday, but it’s supposed to cool down next week. Hopefully that means no more snow!

I love the sound of water. I love rivers especially. I am lucky here at Toad Hall as the sound of the sea is the heartbeat of the place. In fact, I put up with a lot of things in a house I'd normally be annoyed at because of where it happens to sit. The roar of the wave or the more subtle lap and splash on calmer days. It really does feed the soul.

We were down to one car for almost two years, but we could both work from home. Now that @winstonalden is back to the city job he needs his car to drive to the commuter train. Good ole 'merica ripped out all the good train lines after WWII so they could sell us all into being constant car owners. And between insepctions and insurance and fuel costs, I hate car ownership. But, now we are back to two cars again because I need to have one here as I need to get to my cottages in the Summer. Otherwise, we'd be down to one.

We used to live carless back in the day. We had bikes and worked part time at a local coffee shop that we rode our bikes to (about 3 miles one way so I was in MUCH better shape).

In our area it isn't easy living without a car if you are not in the city. However in UK I found it easier to be car-less.

Good luck with truck repair. It must not be easy to not have wheels with three boys, but you seem to be a smart hard-working industrious crew so I am sure you make it work with smiles and determination.

The chickens in the same box, so funny and so true. I'm trying a new in between free range and pen approach with my chickens. This is only week one, but I fence in a small area close to the house where their house in that has good tree cover and I've been letting them out. However as there is not roof wire I hope a hawk doesn't figure out they are there or they might have to go back to simply 'chicken run' life. It's always an experiement with the birds. A fun one, but sometimes a nail biter too. I don't know how you manage to not get your birds attacked by fox and hawks, but then again you have a lot and they are probably better at free ranging then my little bantams who are so friendly they'd probably walk up to the fox looking for a handout.

Aww, good for you for experimenting with them in their new little enclosure, I have my fingers crossed for you, it should be all good, I don't know if a hawk would want to get in that close, with the trees right above the run like that.

The reason we've been so lucky with predators is a bit of a catch 22. It's because we live right on the highway, and there is a factory across the road from us that runs all night, it's got huge fans that turn on periodically and is always lit up too, so I think predators don't find our little stretch very appealing as they can't be very sneaky and they are afraid of the lights, cars and noises.

Glad you got to get out for a drive. The rivers and the forest are very scenic and peaceful. Love your laugh 😁

Thank You for featuring my post, once again.
Btw- Why dont you use dtube much anymore? Is it too buggy?

Thanks for using the tag Michael, I've been loving your journeys! Yeah, been a tiny bit frustrated with aspects of dtube so taking a break from trying it, I'll post there again maybe after their next update :)

Love the sound of rushing water, so calming. And that's interesting moss hanging from the trees, kind of like Canadian Spanish moss 👍🏽👍🏽

We call it Old Man's Beard here, I know some people who eat it actually!

Beautiful! And I empathize - I have never owned a car in my life. So much beautiful nature in the mountains, that I can't go to. Maybe every two years, my friend visits, and I get to see it. Colorado isn't the outdoorsy adventure place if you're too poor. My favorite place in the world is about an hour and a half drive away - and I haven't been in two or three years. That's the last time I got outside the city, or surrounding suburbs.

Oooh :'( :'( That sucks so much that you haven't got to go to your favourite spot for so long, is a vehicle something that you would want one day, shall I add it into my tiny house vision for you?

You are so loving towards nature, and so connected to beauty, what a shame that you can't go ... :'( :'(

I would like one; I think at first I would probably be afraid driving, though, lol. I have never had a license, and so only piloted a car without anyone else there with me once, which was totally illegal, because my friend had gotten a concussion at work so her mom came to pick her up and asked me to drive friend's car back. That's the extent of my solo diving experience, lol.
But I think once I got used to it, I would feel so FREE. I could go anywhere, at any hour. I would be going to the mountains a lot just because I could. A couple of years back when I went to the tiny house workshop, it was in Boulder, which in car is an outlying suburb, half an hour away or so, depending on how you feel about driving either a bit of a commute or no big deal. On the bus it was nearly $10 fare round trip (more now), and nearly three hours one way to go from the hotel where the workshop was to home. And I felt like I was having an epic, freeing adventure the entire time.

Awww, were you totally shittin yourself when you were driving your friend's car back? I would have been! Way to step up to the plate, it's amazing what we can do when there is no other choice.

Yeah, after I had that OMG I DID THE THING AND I DIDN'T DIE feeling, lol. 😂

Hi mam! how is going? Wonder weather & beautiful photos you are taken.☺

Hi, I'm doing great today, how are you @suchovon002?

i'm feeling refreshed mam.☺

Ahahaa, I walk everywhere myself. Or, ride my skateboard in the city, but I cant do that down a mountain so I end up doing a lot of walking.... I just wont walk up the mountain, ill wait for a ride for that lol.

My hens also insist of crowding into a small box, and we have like 10 extra boxes. They sure are oddly perticular....

HAHA I remember hitchhiking in Kelowna, someone will always stop to give a ride, such friendly folks there <3 <3 <3 I'm glad I'm not the only one with crazy chickens LOL!!

Wow what a stunningly beautiful walk @lyndsaybowes you can almost smell the pine drifting on the breeze and that water looks amazing .. crystal clear. I will have to admit to my hidden addiction .. whenever the sun is shining and I'm hiking I simply have to dive into the water, I can't help myself lol The coldest water I've swan in was in Jasper and it was in the water running down from Mount Edith Cavell glacier .. nice day but I didn't last long! lol Loved this #walkwithme @lyndsaybowes

Oh my goodness...even in the middle of summer that water is deadly, but I could see your desire to go in it, so beautiful and sparkling green and blue...

I was definitely tempted to jump into the ocean yesterday, it was even hotter than the day before...Sooooon!!!

Something tells me you and your Dog have a pretty fun time romping around in the water when the weather warms up <3 <3

Great walk! I didnt even mind the dog butt, lol. Im always amazed at how many trees they can mark along the route - where do they have room for all that pee? hehhe

Indeed lol, my friend Carol said that when they're out for walks they drink from the puddles and it goes directly to their ___ hahaha!

best bladder control ever!
