Bangkok's Largest Weekend Market- Chatuchak

A trip to Bangkok would not be complete without visiting Chatuchak Weekend Market. I'm not a big shopper but taking a trip out there is definitely an experience. It's an outdoor and indoor market with over 15,000 stalls. You can buy anything from plants, to pets, clothing, Thai handicrafts and much more. I was on a search for some Thai ceramic dishes and they have a huge household section so ventured out to the market. Even though the market is about 35 acres, it is organized into sections and there are maps in different languages to help navigate you to your area of interest.

Once you get to the section, the start of the walk ways have signs which coordinate with the map showing you the area you are in and which alley way. You will have to enter the walk way because there are many stalls in there and many sell the same items at different prices. The stalls have no names so if you want to make a trip back to a particular stall you will have to remember it's location.

Although the section may list household, you can run into something totally unrelated. Here is a stand for plastic fruit and vegetables.

I guess you can use some plastic fruits and veggies for household decor. I ran into the coolest paper store while looking for dishes.

Further along the alley I came across a diffuser store, still no dishes.

After walking through a few walk ways under household and seeing all sorts of interesting stalls I finally came to the end and out on the side were the ceramics. Success!

There is also a giant food section in the market. Although I have heard many people telling me how they have had some of the best food there, I am a bit skeptical. I always pass by stalls with incredible looking food but with 80 degree F plus weather and food sitting out unrefrigerated, I am afraid of getting sick.

For me I found the best way to get to Chatuchak is to take the BTS all the way to Mo Chit and from there it is about a 5 minute walk to the market. You can also take the MRT to Chatuchak Park Station. Just follow the crowd to the market. It's a fun way to spend a few hours on a weekend.

I'm so honored! Thank you @travelfeed.

I've been to Bangkok many times. The first time I went there I visited this market and got lost in it because it was so huge; it took a very long time to find the way out...good post, thanks...

I've gotten lost there too. Thanks so much @wales. I really enjoyed reading Broken angel. Your writing is beautiful.

For that you get a penny, and my undying love...

I visited Chatuchak Market when I was in Bangkok in December 2016, so amazing! There is sooo much to see :)

You are right, there is so much to see. I don't think I have seen even half of it and I have been there 3 times. Did you make it to the Rod Fai Night Market? Such a different energy. Thanks @jpphotography.

I went to quite a few markets in Bangkok, but I think I didn't visit the rod fai market, but I love night markets! I will check it out next time, thanks for the tip!

This is going on my “must see” list once I visit Bangkok. I will bring extra suitcases with me! Definitely will shop:)

What dishes did you buy?

I ended up buying some plain white stone ceramic plates and mugs. I had a hard time finding smaller mugs to fit under my coffee machine. Mission accomplished! They do have some unique things there, you just have to be patient, haha. Thanks so much @sweetsandbeyond.

Love the food. Upvoted. So healthy. Reminds me of markets I saw in Vietnam.

Thank you @joeyarnoldvn. I have yet to travel to Vietnam but I heard many great stories and I can't wait to take a trip there. Which part of Vietnam did you like best?

Dalat City is very quiet, lots of fresh air, romantic waterfalls.

What a good post friend is still here, I have followed you I hope you enter my blog and follow me and vote for my post and support me, I will also support you in all your posts are fine: D

Thank you @cristian26. I wish I had a green thumb like you!

Love this place! You can find so many cheap, more or less useful, funny and crazy things there. What I like most is the great choice of food. Nice post, upvoted it.

It's so hard to stay focused sometimes at the market because there is so much to see. Thanks for your comment @marcelgoo. How do you like Malaysia?

I love Malaysia and I've been there many times. Always great to be back. I like the food, the people and the diversity of the country. Some of the most amazing beaches that I've ever visited in Southeast Asia were in Malaysia :D
