As a blogger of 10 years, I know exactly how writer’s block feels. You sit there, watching the little black cursor blink on the blank white page, uninspired to write about anything. You know you NEED to put out another Steemit post...but what the heck should you talk about?!

[This post was originally shared on my blog, basics4bloggers.com, but has been updated and revised for posting here on Steemit!]

If you are posting 1-2 times each day on Steemit, you’re likely to struggle with ideas for new posts at some point. Luckily, there are several places you can look for inspiration for your new post!

10 Places to Look for Steemit Post Ideas

1. Yahoo.com – Or your favorite news website. Writing about something going on in the world seems to be very popular here at Steemit. If you have an opinion on a current news topic, share it here in a post!

2. Google Trends – This shows the hottest topics being currently being searched on Google. Updated several times a day, you can find something that may spark both your interests and give you some topics to write about on Steemit.

3. Questions and Answer Websites – There are sites out there where visitors can submit questions and others answer them. The questions can be about ANYTHING, so a lot of inspiration is sitting within the pages of one of these websites. If you’d like to see what others are asking, check out Yahoo! Answers or Quora.com

4. Social Media - Facebook and Pinterest hold a wealth of topic ideas when you are struggling to figure out what to write. Scroll through your FB news feed or check out the groups you are in for ideas that you can turn into a Steemit post. The same can be done with Pinterest!

5. Your Favorite Blogs - Check out the blogs you read regularly. Take a look at what they are talking about these days. You may find that you can share a better way to do something that was mentioned…which would make a great post here.

6. Writing Prompts - The Internet is full of prompts that can lead to complete stories, or at least a simple blog post! Head over to Google and search “writing prompts” to see what I mean.

If you have a topic you enjoy writing about but are suffering from writer’s block, search for that topic along with the phrase “writer’s block” to return specific results.

7. Bookstore – Head to your local Barnes & Noble or whatever bookstore is in your area and check out what’s hot in the nonfiction categories. Find a book that’s selling well and glimpse over the table of contents. Each chapter heading could be a potential blog post!

You can also do this online at a bookstore’s website, but sometimes it’s more motivational to hold a book in your hands. Something about being in a store surrounded by words and stories is bound to get your creative juices flowing!

8. Calendar - Are there any upcoming holidays or other occasions? Holiday posts always do great, from 4-6 weeks prior up to the actual date. You could share crafts or recipes related to the holiday, or simple tips on how to celebrate the occasion.

9. Your Own Life Experiences - Been somewhere extravagant? Lived through a horrible illness? People love to read personal stories that are interesting, humorous, sad, or a combination of the three. Tell your story, breaking it up into several posts if needed to keep it from being one long book.

10. Family and Friends – Ask your loved ones for topic ideas for Steemit. It’s likely they have some funny stories from their own lives to share! Or, maybe they can just help you brainstorm current topics that would be a hit.

I think this should be very helpful for people looking for inspiration for writing. My favorite and go to is my life experience and stories. I have those by the hundreds. lol Actually, the amazing comments you leave on my motivational posts are quotes all inspired by my life's experiences. :)

I am sure many people will find this post very useful. Especially, when trying to find inspiration for writing. :)

Great post, my friend. Keep on educating, and on helping. Be the "Angel" and the "Right" people. Love it. :)

Have an amazing day as always. :)

Thank you so much for the kind words, @awakentolife. You are definitely an inspiration for me. Your posts are very uplifting and interesting. I love that you share so much of your experiences with us here. I need to jot down some more stories of my own to share!

You should. Best stories come from us. It is basically us in words. That is why I never run out of inspiration to write motivational posts. Because they are ME. :)

So looking forward of you sharing YOU in words. :)

My problem isn't finding ideas its sorting them out long enough to get them out of my head and onto the screen lol. So much so that sometimes it overwhelms me and I end up starting at the blinking cursor too lol. Thanks for the additional ideas to break it :)

Maybe you should keep a list of your ideas then choose just one and focus on it. You can also make an outline for the post so you make sure you include everything you are thinking on the topic.

That is a great idea. I am pretty good at writing some of them down but the outline of thoughts is good.

How timely! I was about to sit down to write a post
and wasn't sure exactly what I'd write about!

So... you gave me some great ideas. I think I'll go
write 10 Fun Facts about Cats!

Sounds very interesting, @peggyhazelwood! I will definitely check that one out.

Having found this, there's no reason for me to run out of ideas. Thanks for sharing.

You are welcome! :)

Keciah, you've found a way to keep writing great posts everyday! This is one of those posts that people should bookmark and refer back to. Tip #6 is one that is new to me and I love learning something new.

Yes, writing prompts are very handy! I think I'll be using quite a few on Steemit in coming days.

I'm glad you mentioned the bookstore! I regularly wander over to my bookshelf to get inspiration for one of my science posts.

It’s so easy to find inspiration from books! :)

Excellent article. And I think our own life experiences is one of the most overlooked places to find ideas. We probably all think that our own experiences would be boring to others.

For example, I was thinking about what to write for a writing contest here on steemit - supposed to be a personal experience that's exciting or scary or something people want to read. And even though I've led an interesting life, I couldn't think of a thing that would be exciting enough. But then of course, I thought of something to write about - and once I thought of that, it was like breaking open the dam and I thought of lots of my experiences that would fit.

So thanks for helping us know that there's always something to write about.

I found it hard to talk about myself or my experiences. I struggle with “what would other people find interesting” too!

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU. This is so helpful. I'm actually sitting here responding to comments and at the back of my mind I am panicky because I'm drawing blanks. I just thought of three steemit posts just by reading this.
You are heaven sent.

Glad you were able to defeat the blank!! :)

Interesting. Thanks for sharing these tips

I usually have too much to write about :) Never had problems with finding ideas, but I do know some people who had, this would be great for them. You listed some great ways to help ourselves when we get stuck, number 9 is my favourite.

Thank you for sharing this with us, I know it took some work to put this all together, good job! 💚

Thanks @zen-art! Life experiences should be an easy category for most but I tend to struggle. All because I’m not sure what I have to say is all that interesting. :)
