Walk with me on Mount Rigi (Part 1)
Being a fresh Swiss citizen also means to me that it is time to start exploring the Alps. I already started a little bit with this by Biking up Mount Pilatus, but today I found that it was time to start some hiking. And where to better start than just around the corner
Mount Rigi here I come!!
Now let me start with getting one thing straight. Hiking in Switzerland is not for the weakhearted people in bad shape.
Let me give an example while explaining this. This hike today is categorized as categorie T1, which means that your grandmother should be able to to it. But what reality is, is that even though this was most likely on of the most easiest hikes in entire Switzerland, you still need to have some kind of shape going on. Because yes, in this image the path was paved, but that isn't everywhere. And yes, although it was flat here, this easy hike had 'still only' 200 meters of altitude difference in there. The bottomline is:
Know what your limits are and don't go alone!
You can walk up from either Kussnacht or Arth-Goldau or decide to take a train or a gondola
One other thing that is a definite plus about the gondola is that it is fast. In about 6 minutes you are up or down, while the train takes about 25 minutes to go up. Downside, the gondola only takes 6 minutes. Checking out views is also a nice day off right??
Now remember, going up a mountain is not always a guarantee for nice views. Clouds pass by often and fast, but when they decide to stay in place, you can forget about your nice view. It will only be, white and more white
But when the clouds break open?? Your reward will be there!!
For me it was super fun to see so far in the distance because of the fact that had been biking around so much before in the region. It was easy to recognize so many places around the lake, and I was really amazed how clear the sky was and how far you then can see.
This can also have a downside, you can see all too well how far down it is, hahaha!
If you ever have the chance, go up Mount Rigi and really take the time for a decent 2/3 hour hike on a clear day. You will totally not regret it!

Breathtaking views @karinxxl. Hiking has its own perks - which is why I am hitting the gym Nowadays. Planning for another trip to mountains. Loved the pictures and Switzerland is indeed a beautiful country. BTW I liked the blocked view by the clouds as well. Haha!

The fog is cool right! You dont have a clue that you go 1500 meter down there hahahahha
So gorgeous! I bet it is a workout though! I love hiking and spending the day in the mountains. Our mountains aren't as steep as yours though ;)
Thanks so much for sharing, really enjoyed the walk.
Thank goodness for the trains and gondolas on this hike, but surely I will having a ridiculous workout soon while one of these Alps up. (that might take a while though, thats something you have to build up!)
Where are you mountains located? Yes these ones are crazy steep I must say!
I am not a hiker myself, but boy...what a view.. Great post, loved it !!
Thats why there are lifts and so as well, so that non hikers can also enjoy :). It is super peacefull walking around I must honestly say
Stunning views! Not something you'd want to do if you have a fear of heights :P
Well actually, I am not really that much of a hero with heights. For some reason Im kind of sceptical with man made structures, but being on a mountain doesnt scare me at all, weird is actually weird psychology hahahha.
But indeed fantastic views here!
Cool blog very informative!
