Market Friday: local village fair during the boat race,งานที่หมู่บ้านช่วงเทศกาลแข่งเรือยาว

This is my entry for #marketfriday hosted by the lovely and compassionate @dswigle. It was a warm sunny day with bright blue sky. The local village was having the yearly boat race in Mae Nam Khong River. I went for a morning walk to observe the atmosphere before the whole area got crowded in the afternoon.

Villagers had the opportunity to sell their handicrafts, food and drinks during the boat race. They just set up their stalls along the road by the river hoping that the race would draw lots of people to the village fair. Children seemed to be having a good time at the fair. The boat race started later in the afternoon, so I had some space to walk around taking some photos.

The atmosphere was still very quiet as vendors had just set up their games shop and food stalls. Food on wheels and vendors on motor bikes started to arrive before lunch time with anticipation for hungry customers. But there were too early as the heat made people staying at home a bit longer.

I expected that these food and drink vendors would be selling out in the evening as visitors from several villages would converge along the river front in the afternoon. The narrow roads in the area were packed with pickup trucks and motor cycles started to arrive on the scene. There would be a beer party after the boat race in the evening. The stage, podium and partying area were already neatly set up. The loud music and drinking spree would last till the early hours of the following day.

สัปดาห์ที่ผ่านมามีการแข่งขันเรือยาวประจำปี ที่หมู่บ้านในหนองคาย เราจึงออกไปเดินเล่นสำรวจบริเวณริมแม่น้ำ และที่ลานจัดงานในตอนเช้า อากาศร้อนมากมีแดดจัด แต่โชคดีที่ในไม่มีฝนตก เราเห็นชาวบ้านมาตั้งร้านขายอาหาร และเครื่องดื่มตามริมถนน มีร้านเล่นเกมส์และขายของเล่นให้เด็กๆสองร้าน พวกรถเข็นอาหาร ขนมและเครื่องดื่มก็เริ่มมาจับจองที่กันแต่เช้า นอกจากนี้ก็มีลานเบียร์และเวทีสำหรับวงดนตรีด้วย ท่าทางเขาจะฉลองกันจนถึงตีสองตีสาม เราโชคดีที่ตัดสินใจมาเดินเล่นในตอนเช้า ถนนริมโขงเริ่มติดขัด มีรถกระบะเริ่มจอดกันตลอดทาง ช่วงบ่ายถนนแถวนี้คงติดเป็นแตงเม คนจากหลายหมู่บ้านจะมารวมตัวกันตั้งแต่ตอนบ่าย เพื่อดูการแข่งเรือ

ชาวบ้านบางคนก็เอาโต๊ะมาวางเพื่อขายเหล้าท่ามกลางแดดร้อนจัด พวกแม่บ้านเอากระเป๋าของโครงการโอท็อปมาขายคนที่มาเที่ยวดูการแข่งเรือ เราเดินดูการเตรียมงานของเจ้าหน้าที่เทศบาล และชาวบ้านที่พึ่งออกมาเตรียมร้านขายของ ทุกคนมีความคาดหวังมากว่า จะมีคนมาเที่ยวงานจากที่ต่างๆในหนองคาย เขาเตรียมลานเบียร์ขนาดใหญ่เป็นปีแรก และมีเวทีสำหรับวงดนตรีด้วย เราคิดว่างานปีนี้คงคึกคักถึงตีสาม รถคงติดมากในตอนเย็น และเสียงคนเชียร์เรือยาวคงดังสนั่นไปทั้งคุ้งนํ้า เราก็หวังว่างานนี้คงช่วยกระจายรายได้ให้ทั่วถึงทั้งหมู่บ้าน
