Let's Get Loco With Lego Sculptures; Entry #5--Sunday Morning Swallow Tail

in #art8 years ago

This was an enormous Swallow Tail Butterfly. Oddly enough, just as I was taking pictures of this piece, an actual butterfly fluttered by and landed in the bushes nearby. Each time I tried to position myself to take a picture to go along with this entry, the thing would take off, fly around in circles for several minutes, then land somewhere else on the bushes. This little game of "catch me if you can," lasted about 10 minutes and then the butterfly just took off...I never did get a good picture to put with this.

Butterflies happen to be another of my Mother's favorite things. We've taken her to a couple of butterfly gardens throughout the years and she is quite content to just sit there for hours letting them land on her, enjoying their company. I find them to be one of the most interesting life forms we have on our planet...very few animals go through the morphing process that caterpillars do to become butterflies.

Coming in at just under 37,500 Lego blocks, this was one of the middle of the pack pieces. The intricate color palate really added to the complexity of this sculpture. I'm not sure the living butterfly I tried to grab a picture of was a Swallow Tail, I believe it might have been a Monarch, but in any case, I hope this brightens your Sunday morning a bit!
