Bitshares adverts on Facebook. Flash fundraiser.

in #bitshares8 years ago (edited)

All Steem dollars from this post will be spent on Facebook ads promoting Bitshares. Steempower I will keep.

Just upvote this post if you want to help and like the page if you haven't done already: www.facebook.com/bitshares

and twitter @bitshares

@chris4210 is running a sustained schedule of posts via hootsuite subscription which I pay for monthly out of my own funds. If anyone else is good with hootsuite let me know.

@jonnybitcoin, Steem funds are meant to be spent on anything that contributes to the value of the Steem platform. Therefore, would you consider adding to the BitShares banner a message saying something like this:

This ad is sponsored (or has been brought to you) by Steem (or Steemit.com)

Otherwise I feel a bit uneasy about your efforts. I'm aware that you are a great supporter of BitShares and have done a lot to promote it (including spending your own private funds). As a BitShares shareholder, I really appreciate this.

However using Steem funds (which belong to Steem shareholders) to explicitly support an unrelated platform - well, this does not sound too good for me, unless Steem is clearly mentioned as the source of funding.

No sorry. Steem shareholders have chosen to upvote this which clearly states what the funds will be spent on.
Why not create a similar post to mine to try and raise funds for steem ads on fb?

I don't think there's any reason to call this "abuse".

For me, this is an abuse of Steem's social contract. Would you feel the same if funds were raised in this way to sponsor Ethereum or Dash banners just because some whales are Ethereum/Dash shareholders?

A more detailed explanation of my stance is here.

I'm sad you don't understand that. People upvoting you does not mean it's a right thing to do.

I think you are abusing Steem this way. I would not object if it was a charity but BitShares is a commercial project and you are sucking funds from Steem to fund it. And I say it as a BitShares shareholder.

I was trying to be polite and I'm really disappointed by your response. You are hurting Steem's public image. The only thing left for me to do is to flag your post as an attempt to abuse the platform.

Sure, I am also a very old BitShares fan and I feel it is in order (IMO).
Moreover there are many other post on Steemit to raise money for something and that is just fine.
Steem is not just blockchain "Twitter+Facebook" It is a vehicle for fundrising.

It is a vehicle for fundraising.

According to the whitepaper, it's not meant to be a vehicle for fundraising for just anything you want. Fundraising can take place only if it brings some value to Steem. It's very subjective but this case is quite clear - there is no value, or the value is even negative, as it hurts Steem's image.

Actually there are already "upvote me" charity post. That is something that could have been expected. Maybe not welcomed, but I wonder if it hurts Steem ´s image.

I upvoted this post because I know and I trust you, but I totally understand @innuendo.

Whitepaper says:

Like Bitcoin, all work must be done prior-to payout and nothing should be paid
speculatively on the promise to do work in the future.

On forum, BunkerChain Labs describe what could be a better aproach.

The post was very poor quality and didn't meet any criteria as far as content goes. It literally just was a call to give you money on a promise.
If you put some kind of effort into actually making a case that detailed how that advertising would be done.. show the prepared campaigns that are ready to go with screenshots.. and what the end goal might be, then it would have been more compelling to support.
I think a little more effort would have yielded better results.

I support Jonny in this approach, BitShares needs more support on the social media in advertising, post sharing etc. I regularly pick up the top news and put them on Facebook and Twitter using hootsuite. I soon plan to create a deeper marketing strategy for BitShares too. We need to ramp up our marketing efforts again. Steem will be one of the potential sources for funding.

Please let me know if you want to add any specific Tweet to the BitShares Evergreens. You can contact me at [email protected] Thank you.

I need more information on this before upvoting. Who are you targeting with the ads? What is the content? Are they text ads or display ads? If display adds can you give a mockup. I support you wanting to market Bitshares because I think it needs further exposure but simply putting a brief bit of text on Steemit with your idea without many specifics doesn't warrant hundreds of dollars in contributions IMHO.

  • I'm not convinced Facebook is the best spend per $.
  • In terms of getting converts who is the low hanging fruit. What is their profile? Where do they frequent and what are the 'pull levers' to get them hooked?

I would appreciate proof of these transactions as well as you putting some time into some conversation as regarding the analytics. Either way this is a sweet way of using Steemit. +1 upvote

Sure, i will post screenshots of the transactions when this post closes. I have a history in the bitshares community, which alot of steemers came from.

Awesome. I don't mean to discredit -- only to reinforce the value of the work we are providing. Thank you @jonnybitcoin
