[Steemit] How to get the most out of the Steem Blockchain
On the surface, Steemit can seem a bit bare and feature-less to the casual user, however there is no shortage to the amount of good quality services available to us all, and they can really help you get the most out of the largest blockchain-based social media platform around. These are all created by other users just like you or I, and go a long way to highlight the dedication and commitment from these talented developers.
I'm going to go through a few of the best services I've come across in my few months on Steemit. These services will really enhance your experience here, and I can't recommend them enough. If you're a new user here, this might seem like a lot to take in all at once, so bookmark this post and take your time in looking at each service. Enough jibber-jabber, let's take a look at them.
GINAbot
@GINAbot (General Instant Notification Automaton) is an amazing and invaluable service that provides you with all the notifications you want direct to Discord. If you're a Busy user, you might be used to that feature being part of the UI, but for those who primarily use Steemit, you want to get this service setup ASAP.
Just some of the amazing features offered by GINAbot include comment, upvote and mention notifications plus what's possibly the most useful feature for some and lacking from any other service I've seen is the ability to be notified when your favourite authors post. This can either be all of their posts, or you can setup alerts for specific words or tags. For example, if you're a fan of my Cult Watch series (plug plug plug), you could either follow the #cultwatch tag with GINAbot, or set up a word watch for [Cult Watch] and be notified every time a new post comes out.
I find this last feature particularly exciting, as it allows authors and their readers to create series and subscription style communities. If you follow more than a handful of accounts, your feed can get very busy very quickly, and this way you'll never miss out on your favourite content.
If you'd like to read more about GINAbot, or if you're ready to jump straight in, head on over to their post and follow the simple instructions included there. If there's anything you're unsure about, feel free to get in touch with me either down in the comments or using the link to my Discord server at the end of this post.
DustSweeper
@DustSweeper is the solution to the problem of the "dust rule" on Steemit. In case you aren't familiar, posts or comments with a payout below ~$0.029 don't payout and are instead put back into the "Steem pool". To the big users, $0.03 is nothing but to us lowly minnows it can be a massive amount. DustSweeper will upvote your posts or comments that are below the dust threshold shortly before payout, so that you receive the payout.
To sign up to DustSweeper, all you need to do is open an account with them by sending 1 STEEM/SBD to @dustsweeper, they then deduct $0.014 from your account for every upvote they cast (worth about $0.028). You can read more about the project on this Introduction Post or by heading over to their @dustsweeper profile.
SteemAuto
SteemAuto is a must have for everyone in my opinion, as it'll automate a lot of the daily tasks that the average user does. You can join curation trails, create scheduled posts, setup auto upvoting for your favourite accounts, auto claim rewards and quite a bit more to boot. It's really easy to get signed up and ready to automate the tedious tasks so that you can spend more time doing what you enjoy.
You have full control over everything, so with the fanbase feature you can set the vote weight, frequency and the minimum Voting Power you need to have in order to cast your autovotes. So if you dip below, let's say 75%, it won't auto upvote anything until your VP has recovered enough. Smart stuff.
To get set up with SteemAuto, just head on over to their website and login with SteemConnect. You can read more about it on their post. By using SteemAuto, you can really streamline your interactions with the Steem blockchain, and ensure that you can reward your favourite content creators even if you're inactive for a bit. There's no point in letting good upvotes go to waste!
Steem Basic Income
@SteemBasicIncome is an initiative I've talked about often in my brief time here, as I'm a big proponent for the concept of a Universal Basic Income. That's exactly what SBI is, a UBI on the steem blockchain. Each post your publish will receive an automatic upvote from one of the SBI accounts, with the amount you receive dependent on the number of shares you've received. To receive shares, someone either needs to nominate you, or if you nominate someone else you also receive a share.
To get setup with SBI, all you need to do is nominate your favourite content creator or user, and send 1STEEM to @steembasicincome with the users name in the memo (so, if you wanted to nominate me *wink* just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome with @johngreenfield in the memo field).
SBI Roulette
Now a little bonus SBI related service, if you would like help in finding someone to nominate then might I recommend @SBI-Roulette, created by @spotted. What this site does is selects a user who might be worthy of your nomination based upon the votes of @ocd. If you're struggling to find a content creator worthy of your Steem, this can point you in the right direction. I gave it a spin myself this morning and found a new user who I hadn't come across before from right here in the UK called @revisesociology. He writes some really interesting stuff, so I highly recommend you go check him out. To get started head on over to the SBI Roulette website.
MinnowSmith
@MinnowSmith is another exciting project from @spotted that allows minnows to mine some STEEM directly in their browsers. You will receive 0.001 STEEM for every 250,000 hashes and it pays out every 24 hours. I've been using it myself now for a day to gain a little boost, and if you've got a decent processor it's definitely worth checking out. It's really easy to get going with this one too, just head over to the Minnow Smith website, enter your username and start mining some STEEM.
Steem Flag Rewards
@SteemFlagRewards is an initiative setup by the wonderful @anthonyadavisii, and rewards users for flagging troublesome content. You can read more about it over on their profile, but basically you tag them in a comment with the reason for why the content should be flagged, after a good flag is identified, a post will be created to support said flagging action and you receive the SBD at time of payout. Nice right?
The people involved with this initiative are all great guys (and gals), and it's a great way to try and tackle the growing tide of spam, scams, crap and plagiarism.
School of Minnows
Individually, minnows are tiny and easily missed, but when they band together to form a school, they're a force like no other. Last but not least, I present to you the @SchoolOfMinnows. This service will recycle your voting power that would otherwise go to waste to support smaller users by casting a vote on your behalf every time you reach 100%. It will remember those votes, and make sure that you receive the same amount back from other users, and also give you a free resteem and a better chance of being manually curated. You can read more about it on their Introduction Post, or head on over to their Discord.
A couple of honourable mentions as well now; @thundercurator and @treeplanter are two great services you can use to boost the payouts on your posts. Thundercurator is an excellent curation service that has a tiered rewards system for it's users. You'll find more information over on their profile, but to use the service all you have to do is send 0.15SBD (or 0.151 for no comment left) to @thundercurator with the link to your post in the memo.
@treeplanter is an upvote bot that pays out a set amount for bids up to 0.25SBD, and it works in a similar way to Thundercurator. Just send the fee of 0.25SBD to @treeplanter with the URL of your post for the memo, and you'll be helping to plant trees in the Abongphen Highland Forest in Cameroon. It's a noble cause, and a win-win for everyone.
If you get all or most of these services setup and in use, you'll find that you can spend more time either creating new content or enjoying others content, and hopefully see better profitability and growth.
I really hope you found this informative and useful, and if you did don't forget to upvote this post as your support helps me so much.
