Looks like a good read, and I've bookmarked for more reading later... but just my 2 cents on something that caught my attention:
Y2K was not a hoax... the hype was maybe a little over the top, yes... but that's maybe a good thing, because it gave everyone enough urgency to attend to things ;-)
Many places @braaiboy BTW the first time if I remember correctly when I arrived I used the introduce myself tag, not this one, now you getting the full version.... a lifetime! Well almost
Are you sure you were not too young to remember all the BS that went on with the Y2K, nappies perhaps?
Almost crippled smaller companies who had to comply to large corporations about being Y2K compliant..... or lose the business. OK we can debate the matter about pushing everyone forward a little, however money was made on a hoax, we are all that gullible!

This was an interesting life that you have had (and now I have that song stuck in my head...). It ws interesting what you had to say about apartheid, I was small then and not really knowing much about it. However, as an adult, I did wonder what it was like to be living in South Africa in those times, when it was mostly shunned by the Western countries.

Happy birthday Joan! What a lovely story, I was an almost two year old toddler when you were born so I can relate to much of your life story! Yes the good old bad days of apartheid still reverberates, quite unthinkable today what took place and like yours, my parents also taught us to treat everyone with respect!
The mild winters here in KZN really is the best!

People who lived through this era more often than not relate to the confusion, especially a child who grew up only realizing much later the stark reality.
Most people don't know how segregated the whole country had become, I would never like to witness this again in my lifetime, in any country.
I live for winters here, if I was a rich man I would live here in winters, travel during summer to enjoy cooler parts of the world.
Thanks for wishes, always enjoyed different technology, debates, ideas as presented to explore. This will most probably be the first and last time I speak about my life, along with politics and religion which is best to steer clear of.
Age is truly just a number; you are as young or old as you feel. Thanks for sharing your life with us today.
Pity we did not have the knowledge we gain over the past sixty odd years, have the mind and body of a twenty year old, now that would make life more interesting.
