Split is, with 200,000 inhabitants, the second largest city of Croatia. It rises around a Roman palace of the emperor Diocletian from the fourth century BC and practically all its tourist attraction is based on this palace (which is no small thing).

If you visit Split in summer, you must take into account the tourist overcrowding of the city by these days. On the other hand, you will not miss any souvenirs (it is full of shops) or tourist attraction, including the typical men dressed as Roman soldier, waiting for you to take a picture with them.

The statue of Gregory of Nin

One of the most well-known sights in Split is the 8.5 meter tall statue in honor of the Bishop Gregory of Nin. Someone came up with the idea that rubbing the toe of the statue would bring you luck, and since then hundreds of tourists have handled this part of the statue, which has remained soft and shiny as a result of this belief.

The Cathedral of St. Domnius:

The octagonal cathedral of Split is one of the best preserved Roman buildings today. It was built as a mausoleum for Diocletian. The entrance includes admission to its crypt, which is worth visiting, not only because of its historical interest, but also because it is cool inside.
