From Broken To Beautiful-The Ancient Art Of Kintsugi

Howdy folks and greetings from the Great Plains of North Texas!

I discovered this new(for me) type of art the other day and I wanted to share it with you, I think it's incredible!

It's called Kintsugi and it originated in Japan and has been practiced for 9,000 years! It turns ordinary pottery and ceramics which have been broken, into unique and beautiful pieces of art.

It's still being done today using traditional methods which consist of taking a lacquer made from the sap of a tree that grows in East Asia and combining it with gold dust. They also use silver and platinum dust.

The results are stunning! Each piece is unique and striking with it's own patterns.

It's also practical. If you accidentally break your favorite mug, no problem!

Part of the Japanese philosophy behind Kintsugi is to not try to hide the damage but to improve on the piece by showing the damage as part of it's history.

This is one artform I reckon I could do. I think. I don't have an artistic bone in my body but I have alot of patience and this doesn't take creativity!
