In your marriage, there are different stages. (see links at the end for previous stages)
The sixth stage: EXPLOSION
Just as you thought everything is plain sailing unexpected changes in your life happen. Life altering events seem to take place at this stage. This can be a job loss, health problems, financial troubles, illness or the death of a parent, even the death of a child. These traumatic events seem to happen as you pass through midlife and into the golden years. The other 5 stages of marriage seem to happen in order, while this explosion phase can happen anytime during your marriage. Couples can experience more than one explosion phase in their marriage.
In the explosion phase, couples must deal the best they can with life’s challenges and changes. This can be very stressful times for a couple and marriage. Hopefully by this stage after been married 30 years plus, you know each other inside out. This can help a spouse to support the other one, knowing what would be the best way to help your spouse overcome the loss. You should be a safe haven for each other in troubled times. If a couple understands each other and can lean on each other, this difficult times can strengthen the relationship further.

If loss seem to divide the couple and they react very differently to, for example, the death of a parent and the other spouse is not supportive enough this can even lead to divorce. If couples experience that they are drifting more and more apart, hopefully, one or both will try to seek professional help.

Even though my wife and I are in the sailing stage, we are currently going through financial hardship with baby and all, but just as we say to each other and pray about it, God will provide and his word is true.

Thank you, that is so encouraging for me. Yes I am in agreement with you about God providence. My hubby and I also was talking about it last night. In our experience God first test our faith and that He will provide just as you are about to give up and the help is always just enough, not more. Like the manna that fell in the desert for the Isrealites.
When we are in crises we always pray audibly together. It seems to us that God more likely answers our prayers when we pray together.
