Ulog 104: Making Some Poblano Jerky

Making homemade jerky is one of my favorite tasks to do around the homestead for various reasons. First, it's healthier than ANY jerky you could buy in the store filled with preservatives and other numerous ingredients that I know I can't pronounce. Second, because I get to create my own flavor(s). And finally because I know Mr Golden D loves to take it to work with him as an in between snack; which is MUCH healthier than anything he'd buy from a vending machine or off the food truck that visits his workplace.

So in my ever seeking mind, I decided to make some jerky for the week, and this week's flavor is Poblano Pepper.

On the way home from our grandson's sixth birthday party (image below) we stopped to buy some fuel and while in line to pay, Mr Golden D happened to see a package of (over-priced) jalapeno flavored beef jerky. He mentioned it to me and I decided instead of making the traditional and regular flavored or Teriyaki jerky this week that I'd spice it up for him and make my own hot flavor.

The little man taking a break from the water balloon and water gun fight among his cousins and uncles to open his birthday gifts.

Yeah... he got two remote control cars, a drone (which Mr Golden D whined about wanting to play with himself) and TONS of summer outfits!

Slicing up the two Poblano peppers and getting the meat on the dehydrator before 5am this morning. It's been dehydrating for only about two hours so far and the house smells heavenly!

Even though the Poblano pepper isn't as hot and spicy as a jalapeno pepper; it's what I had on hand in the pantry here to use. I had no plans to make a special trip to the grocery store for a few peppers.

What a great idea....I'll be making this when we get home. Mr. Bird loves jerkey and like you I hate buying the commercially prepared stuff. Scary stuff!! Glad you had a fun day celebrating grandsons birthday, he looks pretty pleased :)

I never had one of those peppers, but I bet that jerky will be tasty!

Everything done in the house is superior to supermarket products, I think everyone agrees.
